Hi all.

The hp omnibook 800CT offer a docking system with a PCI port (!).
I'd like to use a PCX2 card with this oldies.
Here is my gear (/!\ big images):

I have installed all corectly but my M3D won't work with glquake and the correct opengl32.dll wrapper.
It result on a blank screen with crashing.
I have tested with all drivers (a3dx, m3d and generic).
The card only work WITHOUT a pcmcia card inserted.
I have try the demo files with the OEM CD without success.
I have lowered my screen resolution to empty vram (640x480 16). no success.
the onboard video chipset is the classic neomagic 128zx. the omnibook have 80mb of ram with a p166mmx (512k tagram).
I think about a bus mastering problem ???
Please help, i would love to have an old p5 latop running a 3d card!

I think it's a problem with the PowerVR board interfacing with the onboard video. Leileilol has experimented with this too and found cases of poor performance. The PowerVR cards can be greatly influenced by the 2D chip.

Personally I would go for a Voodoo1 instead.

There are game patches for PowerVR which run in pure DOS. I played Tomb Raider 1 on a m3D myself.
You could be right about bus mastering being a problem, though.
Maybe more video RAM is expected? Your model should have 1MB. I suppose that's not uncommon for 2D only PCI video cards which where the target of PCX2.

...Yes, the 800ct have the poor 128ZV with only 1MB of vram. 😒
The OEMs demo tests failed with directdraw. I have tried @ 640x480x8 with no success.
thk for your help.

Only PowerVR game to run in DOS was Tomb Raider, so if that doesn't work I think the PCI bridge to the 2D video card doesn't work properly with this setup.

Plus I had trouble initializing display modes half the time (Trident). The only games that did work were the ones that used OpenGL via the MiniGL wrappers. It worked too slowly, you could see the pages flipping in 640x480.

Windowed 320x240 was even slow! The Dock bus is not good for a PCX2, but..... there really isn't any other 3d card choice 🙁

Also most docks are too compact to make a VGA cable fit, so even Voodoo'ing to an external monitor may be futile.

Interesting fact, vetz, thanks!
I think the only other native PowerVR game I tried was Unreal which was a Windows game from the beginning. I didn't check if other patches/versions (Ultim@te Race, MechWarrior 2) were for DOS or for Windows.
(MechWarrior 2 was originally for DOS so this would have been possible, and I didn't know about Ultim@te Race since it does not have a Mobygames entry.)

I know (at least I think I do) that all ATI CIF ports are for Windows, though.
