i just got ebook versions of the Micro Adventures (these were lil Novels where there were BASIC sections. i heard of them growing up but decide dto look into em after seeing The8BitGuy's video on em )
the BASIC Sectiosn target IBM/IBM PC Jr/Tandy Commodore 64and a few other i belive.

what should i use PCem ? or Dosbox w/ machine types set and low cycle count set? (if i go IBM PC Jr.) and for those that have had these books then whats the best system to target for the BASIC parts of the books?

I remember those! They were pretty neat. The big problem with them is that at the time there were so many different versions of BASIC and they all had their weird little quirks. Can you provide a link to that video?

DOSBox with the machine types set and a low cycle count should work fine, but the most important thing is that you will need the right version of BASIC. You will likely have an easier time if you use a Commodore 64 or Apple II emulator, since BASIC was much more standardized on those platforms. Unfortunately, importing text into those emulators might be difficult, so if you go that route you might have to type everything in manually. On the other hand, I'm pretty sure I've seen downloads for some of the Micro Adventure games on some C64 sites.

Anyway, if you stick with DOSBox, then BASICA might work, but you might need to find an even older version of BASIC.
