Durons are quite good processors for their price tag.

It's just that when you're down at the price range of Semprons and AXPs, is it really worth spending $20 less to get a Duron?
Same principle as $22 more for 2800 rather than a 2600, I guess 😉

I have just purchased an Athlon XP 2800+ - It will arrive in a few days. In the interim, I would like to know if I will need a different sink/fan combo and if is it difficult to swap the processor or not.
the 1800 and the 2800 sempron both have a 256 L2 cache, it's the barton thats got the 512 L2. also you can get a 3000+ that's 333 fsb 🤑

did you get an oem or retail version of the cpu ? retail comes with hsf, oem not. if it's easy or not depends on how much room is in your case. if it's small then it's better to pull the mobo and replace due to the way the that you have to install the hsf.
In the end I was unable to get the Athlon XP 2800+ (out of production they told me) and I got an Sempron 3000+ which is my current processor. It comes with an AMD certified HSF.
