The skybox banding is horrible in Interstate 76 too. I got some better results with the game, I will update later.

Mech2 video should work on DxWnd v2.05.96. It was broken on v2.05.97

Interstate 76 has many problems. It doesn't even do the monitor 16:9 scaling. It looks like a wrapper problem now.

Also I attached the DxWnd profile for Interstate 76. Remember to remove the compatibility settings (16-bit color, WinXPSP2) that RReady launcher applies. What I do is, keep RReady launched and launch the game from DxWnd, since DxWnd hooks need it to launch from itself.

To run the game in real fullscreen, set Main/Run in window unticked and Video/window style to default. Fullscreen will fail a lot; what I do is press on the i76 entry on DxWnd and press Enter (not double-click) 5-6 times (it launches somehow).

Thank you, this is very awesome!

SODA in full HD resolution looks great. I've only seen it in software mode until now. Can't wait to try it with a steering wheel tomorrow.

I just have one request: can you please remove the annoying "rendition wrapper alpha 1" text?

I'm glad you find it useful.

Just out of curiosity, what kind of gpu are you using? I'd like to know if this runs on amd cards. Soda has major issues on Intel hd gpus.

About the text, I intend to sell this (not for much 4.99, at most 9.99) once I've established full compatibility with all the windows games. A free update to support rendition dos games (speedy3d) using an open source component like dosbox staging is planned.

Steam doesn't allow non-gaming apps (apart from ones for creating games or gaming related media. They've changed their terms for non-gaming apps). Otherwise I would've made this a free alpha test on steam without the text, mildly protected by steam drm. I don't think the epic store will allow it either.

But at the moment, my focus is on getting the win games running. The ones that don't work at the mo have directx (directdraw) dependencies (apart from F1, which needs v1. 0 of the api. That's another minefield. Team apache has smacker video issues.)

So I'm really sorry about that, but look at the bright side, someone's going to hack the text out of it if it's popular.

Does quake 2 run if you if you disable fullscreen mode in the quake 2 config file (not rendition. Cfg). I can't remember the setting name. Also use vid_ref gl or vid_ref soft., also in the config.

I can't reply on the source forge thread. I get a rate limit error.

Ahh. Pretty bad. Unplayable. It's easy to get it to work. I started the game, and kept pressing Esc to skip the video. This started the game.

On an Asus xonar for instance I think disabling dgx and other dsp effects like the equalizer should stop extra filters from loading into the process's address space. But you do lose eax 2.0/a3d in older games. I've had issues with things like that in games like "the longest journey" that have nothing to do with rready.

For most sound cards the dsp effects are an integral part of the drivers and removal involves regsvr32.

If you enable crash dumps and look through the list of loaded modules you'll most probably find an audio component in there.

I've forced single threaded mode for the app. Let me remove the restriction and try.

[EDIT] It runs at 60 fps after disabling single threaded mode and if you skip the intro videos. The helicopter attack sequence clip also plays back. The menus are corrupted. Need to fix all that before doing another release.

I am aware of this exact particular issue. This happened on a Windows 7 laptop that my friend owned, and I fixed it for him.

The problem I described happens on Windows 11 22H2+ only. So far 90% of my game library using the Win95/98/ME compatibility mode is affected. You can ask around, you will get the same result.

For most games, there's an alternative to enabling Windows 95 compatibility mode.
Heavy Gear 2 game: Its IAS Sound Configuration Utility needed Windows 95 mode, and without running it there was no game sound effects. The HardwareAudioMixer shim fixed it.
M1 Tank Platoon II: DxWnd's SafeHeap fixed it.
Thief I and II (vanilla game): SingleProcAffinity shim
...

A few games that still don't have an answer to the EmulateHeap bug is: Jane's Longbow 2 book reading screen, GTA Vice City Win98 compat mode, Lords of the Realm...
Most of these games don't use RRedline at all. vHexenII was our subject. Although DxWnd attached magic to EmulateHeap somehow, without it the game would run 1/15 times.

My suggestion saying this was: consider setting shims individually over compatibility mode.

Also EmulateHeap isn't the only problem; there's problem with EmulateGetCommandLine because Windows no longer sets up DOS lengths paths anymore (by default)... but all of this is a topic for later.

Quake 2 is a well behaved game, it shouldn't be giving you grief.
