@schlang: I am clever enough to disable all of the privacy invading features of Windows that Windows will allow you to disable, but there are hidden back doors and other spyware features that you can't disable, no matter how "clever" you think you are, and no matter which version of Windows you have. If you think you have disabled all of them, then you are not so clever your own self.
The 3 letter agencies had Microsoft put those "features" into the operating system on purpose, just like it had the chip manufacturers put back doors into the chips that went into your cell phone so that they can hack and spy on any cell phone they want. Snowden proved that beyond any shadow of a doubt, but I knew it before he presented his evidence to the rest of the world.
This is why Windows isn't even allowed to be used by certain governments in the world because they don't want foreign intelligence agencies spying on their official government business. Look it up if you don't believe me.
Even your motherboard is compromised these days. They are rooted, with an internet connection and a mini OS, and they can spy on you before you ever install any operating system at all, whether it be Windows or Linux. My newest motherboard is even capable of automatically detecting an installation of Windows and forcing Windows to install drivers and spyware, unless you specifically remember to disable this feature in the BIOS before the first boot of Windows. What else is it installing into Windows behind your back, and without your permission, that you can't even disable?
Even the USB drive containing the drivers that came with my latest motherboard was compromised, and it will root your system if you stick it into any USB port, if you are foolish enough to use it. This is so the Chinese spy agencies can also have a go at your personal data.
Do your due diligence, do your own homework, and you will see that everything I have said is true. I've been studying the scum that rule this world for many many years now and I don't say the things that I've said, lightly or without knowledge. If you think your computer is secure, just because you turned off a few options that Windows would "allow" you to turn off, then you are blissfully ignorant of how this world really works.
And by the way, just like leileilol, I'm still looking forward to a Linux OPL MIDI driver too. Given the state of modern day Windows, it is getting more and more important all of the time to be able to play our classic games we grew up with and love, without being forced to run a spyware riddled, and compromised, operating system like Windows.
