Hi, I’m new to Voodoo II SLI, can you tell by the title? 🤣
Okay, so I’ve had my one Diamond Monster 3D II for a while now, and between it and my DM3D 1 card, I’ve become intimately familiar with the signal noise as compared to Voodoo 3 on up, as well as up to speed on others notes about it over the years. It seems my two cards are fairly decent - when I let my LCD monitor auto align at 640x480 on both, and 800x600 on the II, I can only see a faint bit of scrolling when rendering, and none at all when displaying from a 2D / other 3D card using the newer insulated patch cable I have.
Here’s my question: To what extent can adding a second Voodoo II for SLI introduce further noise? I bought a second DM3D II card that has different brand memory chips from my first, and when paired with the other using the FastVoodoo2 4.6 drivers and a black Abit-branded SLI bridge cable, SLI works just as it should, but now there’s MUCH more visible scrolling on the display when rendering, along with some general signal noise - dirty enough to be distracting even when there’s a lot happening on screen. The issue is not present when outputting from the 2D card.
Currently testing in a pieced-together rig from parts in my sig. Setup is as follows:
- Corsair CX650M
- Asus P3B-F v1.04
- Pentium III 1.0Ghz @ 133 FSB
- 512MB PC133 RAM
- Creative GeForce 256 DDR 32MB
- SB0160 sound card
Monitor is a Dell 2007fp using a thickly insulated, filtered VGA cord that’s served me well with all other setups.
