I have an old accounting program names ame.
it is not working smooth in xp or vista dos emulation mode, so i tried this
dosbox, and liked the full screen feature in dos mode.
the problem that I had so far is:
1.
I have to use mount c c:\
to make ame work, since under c:\ame there's
c:\ame\data subfold, if I use
mount c c:\ame, I wont be able to run ame at all,
since it find no c:\ame\data subfold
yet using mount c c:\
I am under the risk to screw up my whole physical hard disk, as
some of the members mentioned.
any tricks I can use? much appreciated.
2.
the data that I key in to ame program, does not seem to save to physical hard disk, after I exit dosbox, then re enter to ame program, my data seems gone to nowhere,
is there any solution to my delimma?

I have to use mount c c:\

No you don't. Move the AME directory into something like C:\OLDPROGS
and then use "mount c c:\oldprogs" and ame should be happy.

Saving... does it work in the same dosbox session? Ie. quit the program,
re-enter it and the data is available, but not when you close dosbox
inbetween?

Vista is fairly restrictive about programs accessing the root so unless you're running dosbox with full administrative rights or you've changed security settings so that root isn't protected you shouldn't try doing stuff with root.

thanks for all's reply.
now I can manage to have this AME work under c:\dosbox.
the program itself working fine now.
problem is the data that I key in in general ledger.
the data saved wont come up again, seem like nover been entered.
and I dont have such problem if I use the dos command in windows xp,
(although the screen quality of dos command prompt is not as good as dosbox full mode)
so I was wondering how dosbox save data to physical hard disk, if that data I enter is in cache ram, and not in hard disk yet.

Did you right-click on dosbox.exe and choose "Run as Admin"? If you do not set the permisions for "Users" on wherever your data is being written to for "Write access", then you'll need to run DosBox using "Run as Admin".
