Hi,

I open a new post as this time, I release the Version 1.0 of my 8088 (and more) .MOD Player.

I started it as a challenge, to see if I could have my old player working on a 8088.

Then, I improved it more and more, to add .XM Support, 16Bit Mixing and support for file format and devices build recently.
OPL3LPT, CMSLPT, Tandy with .VGM Files.

Mod Master can also compress the partition and limit the max number of channels played:
It is then possible to play Onward (DOPE Demo 28 Channels MOD) on a 8086 at 8MHz, on the Sound Blaster.

For the one that does not know my Youtube Channel, you can see Mod Master playing music on various hardware here:
https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCVsC0SYt-0oc … 4NWOXQPw/videos

download/file.php?mode=view&id=133971

As a Bonus, I add Mod Master 2.2 (the one used to build Mod Master XT) 1.0 and 2.3

download/file.php?mode=view&id=133972
download/file.php?mode=view&id=133973
download/file.php?mode=view&id=133974

Mod Master XT 1.01 Executable only : Test version to correct a detection problem of the BlasterBoard 2.0 (07/07/23)
Also add small mixing speed increase.

It doesn't seem to see more than 1MB on GUS PnP/InterWave .. is this known?

I tested mod-master some time ago. I had problems with the files/directories. Some files/directories are not shown.
Machine was A2286/8 4x2GB CF Card with Ontrack-DM (so internal 100MB Harddisk via Bios of the Bridgeboard)

I 'll have a look for a newer version. Best regards.

Is Mod Master XT the recommended version for all PCs?
If not, which version is the best for machines faster than XT?

Don't get me wrong, I like MOD-Master, but I prefer glx212 because of the nice-interface and lovely gfx.

Hi,

It is a question of taste.

On GLX, .XM Does not work, there are lot of replay bug, the sound quality is reduced due to the way it mix, the configuration need to be done in the command line, the file selector is basic, no support for adlib, CMS, Tandy...
Need a patch to support CGA, No Monochrome text support.

For the graphic, it add a spectrum analyzer. 😀

Just tried ALTOFLYT.MOD, there are wrong notes all the time 😀
2nd reality, Wrong notes in the portamento
It does not play DOPE.MOD at all (Memory problem I suppose)

Anyway, I know that visually, the interface is not that good, that is why we did Mod Master 2.3 (In 1997)
But it require VGA, that is why I used the Mod Master 2.2 interface

Mot Master XT correct lot of bug.
Even if the 2.3 interface is better, Mod Master XT is better now if the replay quality is the priority (And it should)

For 486 and other, there are lot of players.
Mod Master XT is the only DOS Player for VGM for example.

Just try it, you will see (Or Hear)

It's also especially great in a system with GUS, SB and Adlib - switching between the devices is really easy and actually playing an Adlib track even works while e.g. a GUS is selected.
For a while, I also haven't found any noticeable errors in the S3ms or mods I frequently use to test soundcards. Personally I really like the fast and lightweight modm - even on a 486.

Thanks for this release! I waited patiently for this and now i can't thank you enough. The sound quality on slower machines makes all the difference here. Awesome work!

Cannot VGM files be played on a Soundblaster?
Mod Master outputs an error when I tried it.

It's the VGM you put in the zip file. GB_MONI1.VGM
Audio card is a Soundblaster 16PnP, my PC is an Amstrad PC2086 XT 8MHz.
The error is : Replay error: CMS not found.

Thanks

AFAIK, no Sound Blaster replicates the hardware detection mechanism found in the CMS and whether it even supports CMS audio depends on the m0del.
