I have an old copy of SimLife that I really want to play, so I installed DosBox 7.0, and everything works fine until I enter in the install command. I type in this:

C:\SIMLIFE>setup.exe

which I'm pretty sure is the right file, and I get:

C:\SIMLIFE>win SETUP.exe
Illegal command: win.

Can anyone tell me whats wrong, and what, if anything, I can do to fix it? The game files were loaded onto my computer straight from the CD, they're not read-me only, and the program used to run on a Windows 95 and 98. I don't really know anything about computers, so if I'm missing anything really obvious, I'm sorry. Also, if you explain something, I need it in serious laymans terms or in really easy to follow steps. 😀 Thanks a lot!

It's a Windows game, not a DOS game. DOSBox deals wit the latter.

Okay, and this is where my complete lack of knowledge comes in. I thought old Windows ran off of DOS? Is there anything I can do to play the game then?

If the game can run on Windows 3.1 then you can install Windows 3.1 in DosBox and then run the game in DosBox.

AFAIK, all Windows Sim games run fine in 2000/XP/2003/Vista.....
