Another eBay purchase - a small 19" rack and a Netgear GS724TP v2 PoE Gig 24 port switch. It thought it looked old fashioned but the switch still seems to be on sale as a current model for a few hundred quid so the £44 I've paid seems a bargain assuming it works!

Not 1, not 2, but 3 laptops.

First is the FX502VM-AS73, second is an HP 15-DB0066WM, and the third is a Lenovo ThinkPad A485.

Got these for an upgrade to my main system.
Ryzen 9 5950x - new
64GB DDR4-3600 CL16
ASUS ROG Strix x570-e motherboard with EK monoblock.
Also ordered 2x more fans to complete the push/pull water cooling setup this system will have.

Got a really, really, really good price on the RAM and motherboard with waterblock. Have already tested but haven't had the time to put the system together.

For an "ultimate" XP system, I first bought a used Titan X which ended up being faulty. Seller refunded me and didn't have me send it back.

Now I have 2x 980Ti cards on the way. Still going to try to fix the Titan X since it isn't completely dead.

That's going to be a fantastic modern rig. That EK monoblock setup is excellent. Those 980's will make a badass XP sli setup I also hope you can get that Titan fixed up.

Took the Titan X cooler off. It was an Arctic Extreme IV. There was 0 cooling for the RAM or VRMs on the front of the card.

Card had a stock backplate and they had crammed a bunch of thermal pads in there in the hope of being able to cool the front side of the board???

The board is discolored around the RAM chips and other areas such as the VRMs and surrounding area due to it getting so hot.... not sure I will be able to do anything with it.

Does the Titan post? Because if it's working you should be able to find a dead one with a intact HSF on Evilbay. Worse case you have a second complete card that maybe will fair better to attempted efforts to revive it.

Picked this up yesterday and it works fine - it appears never to have been registered or set up on Netgear's smart Insight platform so my warranty started yesterday!

Wow that poor card. I really hate when people's stupidity destroys nice things.

It does post. When drivers are installed the system becomes mostly unresponsive. Takes 5-10 seconds between it registering mouse clicks or key strokes

Trying to do anything after the drivers are installed is pointless.

Tried it on two different machines with the same exact results.

There isn't any corruption on the desktop though so not sure exactly what is wrong.

Im going to try cleaning it and put proper cooling on it to see if that makes a difference. Highly doubtful but who knows.

On a side note, the 980 Ti cooling and the Titan X cooling should be exactly the same for reference models as far as I can tell. Only difference is that the Titan X has RAM on the back of the card.

I had a basic GeForce 6200 recently behave a bit like this - worked in DOS/BIOS and VGA with no drivers in Windows, but as soon as I installed the drivers it was unresponsive or crashed. Turned out to be a couple blown capacitors on the board.

Found a couple EVGA 980Ti Hybrid for sale for parts/repair.

With the massive number of failures of the EVGA 980Ti
cards, I don't hold out much hope of repairing them but the coolers will do nicely for an SLI setup.

the fractal design torrent case finally arrived. my build is now complete.
turned off all the rgb... very nice.
might be time to get a 4k monitor as well although, the acer XB270HU is still working perfectly after 6 years.

I saw a really nice ibuypower case while skulking around best buy today. It was all glass. Imprressive. But personally I wouldn't want an all glass case. I question it's use altogether.

Kinda itching to buy an R7 5700G to upgrade from my R5 2600.. I want the integrated graphics so that I can make a compact build with what I have later on when I move to AM5.. But I can't justify the cost yet, somehow 🙁

The 5600g is also a great option, the extra CUs on the 5700g get choked by the slow and bandwidth restricted DDR4 memory bus, DDR5 on AM5 will fix that issue but for now the 5600g is the better buy over the 5700g. (The 5700g is slightly faster but not enough to be worth the extra cost over the 5600g)

The extra CUs in the IGP doesn't add much but it does have 2 extra physical cores and those 4 extra threads will probably help productivity and longevity..
