OMG it's more expensive than a new laptop.... maybe it's easier to just virtualize the system....

It's clearly a niche, low volume project so I'm not going to judge the price any more than I would judge something from Serdaco or Monotech. I'll criticise the choice of display though... 640x480 LCDs still exist after all.

Some great features though, and I think the ISA breakout is a particularly neat inclusion. Keen to see a reviewer put it through its paces.

There are some Youtube videos about this device if you search 'Book8088'. Sergey Kiselev comments on one video that the author is using his bios with modifications without complying with the GPL license.

The screen seems odd though, looking at the last screenshot - it's missing a column on the left. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zgl7pmDJAy4 about 10 sec in, same kind of issue. Not sure I'd appreciate that for $320 CAD.

Gotta get one of these to phils or LGR to review 😀

The screen auto-adjusts, and sometimes cuts off the first column in text mode. But not always. It probably should be handled better, but who knows how much control he can build into the screen.

Mine arrived. Its such good fun, but I don't remember the 8088 being this slow! It turns out it defaults to 4.77mhz mode.. DOS 6.22 feels sluggish, I can't recall if earlier versions are better or not.

I love being able to open the various access panels to see the chips, and the fact that it can be battery powered so you can chill on the couch

My issues with it right now: there doesn't seem to be a way to change the LCD brightness and it is quite dim. And it apparently has a serial port but there's no access to it.
