I've had this card working fine under Windows 98SE using various versions of the drivers. The package I'm currently attempting to install in XP SP3 (https://www.driverguide.com/driver/detail.php … driverid=114716) includes Windows98SE WDM drivers that worked fine for me on the same machine using the included setup utility. However the folder for the XP drivers only includes 3 files (es1969.inf, es1969.cat, and es1969.sys) and no setup utility. I attempted to install manually via Device Manager, but no dice.

Am I missing something?

Hi. Did you try renaming ES1969.inf to es1969.inf ?
Maybe there's an uppercase/lowercase problem. 🤷

It's a nice idea, but it didn't help. Thanks anyway!

Have you tried running setup from the Win2K folder?

Check the device ID on that multimedia audio device.

For the ESS Solo-1 it should be PCI\VEN_125D&DEV_1969

If it's different then it's not an ESS Solo-1

MB: ASRock B550 Steel Legend
CPU: Ryzen 9 5950X
RAM: Corsair 64GB Kit (4x16GB) DDR4 Veng LPX C18 4000MHz
SSDs: 2x Crucial MX500 1TB SATA + 1x Samsung 980 (non-pro) 1TB NVMe SSD
OSs: Win 11 Pro (NVMe) + WinXP Pro SP3 (SATA)
GPU: RTX2070 (11) GT730 (XP)

Thanks for this. I've not been able to check as I've now pulled the card. It's a Terratec card with Solo 1 chip - the Windows 98SE drivers within the same Zip archive worked fine with my PIII Windows 98 machine.

I've managed to get FM sound working on the machine with a Yamaha YMF724 based card so this has become less urgent and more academic. Currently there are no spare PCI slots in the machine so for now I'll probably leave things as they are (i.e. working!) and put the Solo 1 back in the PIII.

In future, maybe these drivers would be worth a try:

Small update: Works OK in my Athlon XP machine running XP SP2... can't remember which drivers I used... possibly the ones that came with XP?
