The data I have (compiled in the first post of the mod thread) shows that almost all 570s will unlock to 256k and overclock to 600 mhz.

I suspect OP’s board still. Or maybe physical damage of the cpu from the mod. It is possible that the cpu is at fault. But that can be checked by disabling l2 in software if OP can get it to post. Or reversing the mod. And underclocking

The bios sometimes locks up when going back and forth or changing settings on these cpus I have seen this on my motherboards a few times.

Be sure that the bios is updated for these cpus. Check the diy bios modding support thread with Jan.

Anyway, OP has demonstrated that the psu is working on the p3 and so is the rest of the system including I assume cards and ram? (Would have to read back.)

Anyway, at this point, with the discription of the failure as sudden in a game board caps, bios corruption, or cpu physical damage come to mind, though I would expect physical damage to happen while servicing the unit. So less likely with the description.

If OP finds motivation, try the cpu in a different board, and re cap the main board would be my next steps to try.

. Even with a vanilla one working, the plus cpus are different and if the board can’t handle that maybe a different board can.

I'll try the modded cpu in another board, I have a TXP4 that has a modded bios that should work with it. It won't be before this weekend though. It does NOT post in the Acorp board at all anymore.

All other components have been moved to the P3 computer (ram, ps, audio, vid, promise controller, etc.). I was going to put that board in the Techmedia case (which I love) but that case has one less expansion slot opening on the back compared to most AT cases and it blocks the AGP slot on the intel board so I left it where it was.

So this is the current setup of my DOS/98 machine.

I've gone ahead and put the Audigy with optical out header in here too and removed the AWE64.

I’ve now switched out the Radeon 9200 for a GeForce FX5600XT. I could not get Descent 3 to look right on the 9200.

I76 Gold D3D version runs better on the GeForce too and it’s nice having a cpu slow enough for things like the flamethrower to work properly.

At first I could not get this motherboard to work with the 600MHZ P3 but after updating the BIOS and finding a newer version of the manual on the Tyan FTP server I was able to get it working flawlessly.

The newer BIOS is hosted right here on Vogons btw! I'm using the Bx46200b.rom included in the archive.
http://vogonsdrivers.com/getfile.php?fileid=1384

USB 2.0 cards also work in this board unlike the Acorp AT slot 1 board so that's very nice.

Final specs:
Tyan Tsunami S1846
Intel Pentium 3 600
512MB PC100 CL2 (1x256, 2x128)
Kingston 128GB SD
LG DVD-RW
beige ATX case
Corsair CX550
Geforce FX5700LE
Sound Blaster Audigy
Promise Ultra 133TX2
Startech USB 2.0 card
3COM 3c515-TX (1o0 Megabit - 🤣)

The only thing I think needs some work is the fan mount for the cooler, right now it's zip tied on very haphazardly.

I re-used the case and power supply from my Tualatin build because I hardly use that machine, the games it was meant for all run fine on my XP Xeon machine. So this slower machine fits the bill for a 98/DOS machine a lot better.

Something interesting about the BIOS is that the version number only slightly changed but the year number jumped ahead EXACTLY four years. Kind of odd if you ask me.

440BX "Seattle" was released in April 1998 so the date on the left was incorrect; the mainstream Intel chipset back in July 1995 was 430FX "Triton."

Yeah that date did seem weird to me, funny that it’s before the release of the chipset! I wonder if it’s an issue with cpu-z misreading it or if it’s just plain wrong to begin with.

Now you are rocking with Geforce FX 5700 LE, how are the games working out for you with this? What games you plays on this machine?

Cheers,

What data rates do you get with your 10/100 ISA network card?

I'll test sending some data to a share on it from my main PC right now and get back to you with numbers shortly.

It is NOT fast btw. I mostly use the network connection to connect to that PC with VNC and do things like game installs while watching stuff on main PC.

Speed is under 1 megabyte/sec.

I always seem to go back to the same games time and time again. I've been playing throught the i76 Nitro Pack since putting that card in.

Oh, Don't be shy. What's the games that works great on this PIII 600 with FX 5700 LE?

Well these are the ones I have installed right now. I'm probably going to install Jedi Knight at some point too. I was going to put Dark Forces on there but there's a new version on Steam that I might try instead.

NFS 3 is also on the list to be installed but I can't find my purchased version at the moment.

I really like my P3 600, it plays a good 90% of my games.
Most dos games are fine, as are Win9x games that don't like XP
I do have faster P3's but really 600 is just fine

I'm finding that to be the case as well.

That said the gun bobbing in Jedi Knight is weirdly fast on this system. I only just got it installed and played for 5 minutes last night so I'm not sure if it's a big issue yet or not.

Fan mounting system has been upgraded to machine screws and nuts, fan is nice and secure now.

I might get some thermal pads to have the cache chips touch the heatsink as well. I doubt it'll make any real difference but the chips are so close to the heatsink...

I can never just leave well enough alone with these things so I've been playing around with various AGP cards I have in here.

I tried copying and pasting this info from excel and it doesn't read very well so instead I've inserted a pic.

Long term I will likely go with either the FX5600XT or FX5700LE. The 5600 is silent and doesn't get silly hot, the 5700 is very quiet. The MX440 is the crappy 64bit version and while the MX400 is probably the most "period correct" it gets too hot for my liking and has some PCB discoloration from years of that heat. The Radeon cards refuse to play nice with Descent 3. I also have a Geforce 3 TI500 somewhere but can't find it at the moment and my TI4200 does not fit with it's giant Zalman heatsink.

Does 2001SE and 2003 require SSE since you have no data for the K6? Or is it just that you never ran them on that system?

Please use the "quote" option if asking questions to what I write - it will really up the chances of me noticing 😀

Thank you for the benchies. That is what I expect to see especially 5700LE being has working vertex pipelines, more efficient chip and this shows, while 5600 has same pipelines yet clocked bit higher than FX5200 (remember 128bit vram) to keep the comparisons same.

Yet in general Geforce FX is screwed up. FX 5600 better but lacking while 5800 and 5900 so expensive yet the 5700 not compatible with older games due to requiring newer drivers.

I stress on newer driver as a reason I asked about, how you were doing with 5700LE on games. I wonder what kind of games that is not compatible with the FX 5700?
