That was my thought too; the fractal-like pattern is almost a dead giveaway of either a fungal growth or some crystalline structure from bio-chemical reaction.

Has the condition of the case been checked against the sellers pre-sale images? Especially that scratch at the front edge.

Just for anyone reading this thread in the future - this is NOT vinegar syndrome and steps to fix that condition will not work. This failure is pixel rot, caused by either pressure placed on an area on the panel or other unknown failures. There is no known fix for this condition, and it's within the inner layers of the screen. Completely unrelated to the polarizer film.

I stumbled upon this thread after picking up another Nan Tan/Kapok laptop with the same issue. My model is a 9200AD (DSTN) with a small amount of pixel rot in the lower right corner. I swapped out the panel and installed a TFT from my 9600T after a BIOS flash.

Anyway, glad to see you got yours fixed! I was wondering if you could please take a photo of the jumper block under the keyboard/memory expansion module. This 9200AD was messed around with by someone before it came into my possession, and the DX2/66 is running at 50 MHz. I can't find any reference online about what the settings should be, and the jumpers aren't the same as the 9200M/D/T model.
