Looking forward to the adapter, I assume since it's a through hole part it'd be just a PCB adapter and that would offset a 44-pin IDE connector to fit regular size but thinner laptop hard drives.
I have open-sourced my design on https://github.com/pymo/tecra-500-hdd-adapter. It is directly plugged into the 2.5" hdd, with a 3d-printed caddy, it can support all thickness of HDD just like the original.

I've found price from $2 to $6 USD/piece on Taobao. The more expensive part is the shipping to the US ($10 to $20 per shipping). Luckily I have a batch of other components / PCBs shipped with this, so the cost is armotized.
