OK, I got jealous from Amigaz's 486 tower... so it is high time I finish my 486-pizza-box pc! 😅
sorry for the mobile photos... what you see is a nice white and clean pizza-box style case, with a NOS Soyo 4SAW 256kb cache motherboard. It has 64MB 72pin RAM and a i486/100mhz cpu. This motherboard features a working PS2 mouseport (important for me!!!) , 4xISA and 4xPCI slots. Coms/IDE are onboard, this was of the last generation 486 mobos AFAIK.
I do have a 5x86/133mhz chip that I intend to install at some point.
The only card I have installed now is a Diamond Stealth3D 2000/pro 4MB PCI vga. I thinks it is more than enough 😀
I have no idea what sound card(s) to install next. Or if I should upgrade to 5x86/133... maybe I downgrade? dunno
What I have unused in stock is:
1. Roland LAPC-I
2. Roland MPU401/AT
3. Roland CM32-L external
4. 2x Roland SCC-1
5. Roland RAP-10
6. Creative GameBlaster
7. tiny Adlib clone
8. tiny 8-bit SB/Adlib clone
9. Several SB16's (one is a 1740 IIRC)
10. NEC DB60XG daughterboard
11. Roland SC55mkII daughterboard
12. Yamaha SoundEdge SW20-PC
13. Yamaha SW60
14. Sound Galland SC-8000 (wavetable isa + sb)
15. SB PRO 1.0
16. SB PRO 2.0
plus several ESS/OPTI/Crystal/Analog cards... I have listed only the "good" ones IMHO
Can you please suggest me what to install? What comes first in mind is to install the SB 2.0 card, the SW60 one and the LAPC-I .
But I also have my IBM PS1/pro (486slc2/40 upgraded) that could benefit from that combination. Plus a very nice p233mmx babyAT tower. I know I can replace the LAPC-I with the mpu401+cm32-L combo, but that will leave 1 retro-pc without LAPC-I sound. (my other LAPC-I is in my k6II machine and serves me well) I guess the 486/100 (or 5x86/133) would be better having the LAPC-I, and leave the p233mmz machine without since I doubt any LAPC-I game really needs anything more than a 486/66 ...
bah, sorry for the confused avalance of thought 😅
Any suggestions are welcome 😁 and I will also update with better pics as the project continues 😊
