You have a klamath Core there, Why is the result so different from swaaye's result here: 133 MHz Challenge - 5th/6th gen CPU per clock performance
Just look at the Multiplier and FSB readings. Can you please check the L2 cache functionality with something other then Speedsys? or use speedsys v4.70?

I have just run Speedsys version 4.70, and I get the same results as before - that is to say, a crazy looking external clock calculation, consisting of ~24 FSB and a 5.5 multi. Also, for the memory test graphic, the graphical lines look the same as before - that is, after the L1 graphic lines have been plotted, the rest of the calculation line runs along flat, and does not dip again. This suggests that L2 is not present.

Do you want me to run any further tests, with any other utilities?

On the Asus P2B mobo, there are 4 jumpers used to set the CPU's multiplier. Is it worth me setting these 4 jumpers to various undocumented settings, in the hope that I (a) find the 1.5x setting and it actually works, and (b) that there could be a 1x multiplier setting.

Are there any hardware "mods" that you can do to a P2 or P3? Imagine finding out how to deactivate their internal multiplier for example, so that it operates at 1x multi speed. That might be useful.

The 1.5x setting on my Aopen i440BX Mainboard does not work as such with semi-unlocked Deschutes Core PII's. I read it also is useless with Klamaths, but have not tested it myself.

Your readings do not match Swaaye's readings, even though you are doing the same thing. And also regarding the L2 Cache. It is possible speedsys is just messing things up. From my head I would not really know which other diagnosis is best to use. In windows I use CPU-Z, in DOS I also used Checkit. But the latter won't display multipliers and FSB...

You just gave me an idea. In DOS, I ran ChkCPU version 1.20. This displays the FSB and multi. But this utility also displays these crazy readings, as shown earlier in Speedsys. ChkCPU says that the multi is 5.5, and the bus is 24.2 MHz.

Edit: I am using a different board to the board that swaaye is using. I understand that he is using an FX board, whereas I am using a BX board.

I tried a different mobo, an i440BX-based MSI 6163 Pro board. There's a "soft menu" in the BIOS, where you can select the CPU's multi, but it only goes from 3 to 8. I tried 6.5, and it ran the P2 233 CPU at 167 MHz. The Speedsys memory graphic chart indicated that L2 was functioning OK.

I then set the CPU's multi to 6, and the P2 CPU ran at 133 MHz. Speedsys indicated that L2 was not active. Also, Speedsys correctly reported that the system was running at "2x & 66". I then set the multi to 5.5 and 5, and the CPU also ran at 133 MHz. However, Speedsys reported that the multi was in fact these specific values: 5.5 and 5, and that the bus speed was a very low value, about ~20-25.

I also overclocked the P2, with a multi of 4 and that worked. For all of these tests above, I could not decrease the Speedsys score so that it was under ~150.

Link to the other P2 unlock thread: Which Pentium IIs can be underclocked?

My findings so far:
SL2QF (333Mhz Deschutes) - Unlocked
SL2S7 (400Mhz Deschutes) - Unlocked
SL2HE (300Mhz Klamath) - Unlocked

SL2U3 (350Mhz Deschutes) - Locked
SL2VY (300Mhz Deschutes) - Locked

1. The SL2HE is 266mhz, not 300mhz. The SL2HA is 300mhz.

2. I haven't confirmed this, but I thought that no Deschutes was completely unlocked, only limited (ie you can underclock but not overclock).

You're right!

I'll go correct it now. Dunno what CPU I tested then 😜

Btw, slowest I've gotten a P2 is 100Mhz (probably 2x50Mhz?)

It would be very interesting to learn how you did this. Can you remember any details please? Thanks.

I'm pretty sure I just lowered the fsb to 50Mhz. Many 440LX boards support that fsb but many BX's might not.

Hmmm...there are quite a number of SL2S7 cpus on ebay now. Getting one to see if I can actually reduce the number of PCs in my room. But it ain't gonna replace my 486!

I assembled a system and had the opportunity to have another look at the L2 cache. So there is this Deschutes core P-II 333MHz on an Aopen AX6BC. I put it at 2x66Mhz and later at 2x100MHz. WCPU v3 for windows reported no L2 cache at these settings. So it is the same as what speedsys already said.

Ok, got one SL2S7 (Deschutes 400MHz) from BlackmoreIT.

Here's the processor :

It's one big papa heatsink! Anyway, I prefer passive heatsinks to those with fans. I prefer "cool and quiet" 😁.

Pentium 133MHz with MMX! Hehehe...

Maybe I have found my "ALL-IN-ONE" Dos-Win9x-esque Pentium Generation PC, covering from a humble 133Mhz to a 400MHz Pentium-III like speed.

Speaking of the 400MHz, what is the difference between a PII 400 and PIII 400?
