I've asked on a DirectShow forum what I might be getting wrong, so hopefully I'll have a solution soon.

The file ESCAPE.RPL from the TR1 disc isn't part of the game. It just advertises the use of the "escape" codec within the .RPL files. There is no such equivalent file on the playstation version of the game, and indeed it would be inappropriate to display it because - by using the .AVI files - we are avoiding use of the "escape" codec.

Whey! Great, it finally works! 😁

After the first start I had to approve Glidos:

But now it's working fine! I think you should provide the Windows Essentials Codec Pack in combination with the FMV Pack to prevent other users having trouble.

Thank you very much for your patience and all the trouble you took!

Yep, that did the trick. Absolutely no issues with them now. Thanks!

Great news. Thanks for letting me know.

Some people will already have codecs installed - I did, although I don't know where they came from - so my plan is to make Glidos put up a message box requesting the user installs the Windows Essentials Codec pack if the movies fail to play. Does that make sense?

Yeah, good idea. I guess that would be the best solution.

Alternatively you could include the Codecs in your installer as an option (like DirectX is included in the installers of most pc games) which you can check or uncheck.

Well, well, I wish you good luck and I'm looking forward to your German FMV pack! 😉

I haven't forgotten. I wonder if there's any chance you could translate this:

Title=Tomb Raider FMV pack v1.2 for Glidos
Text
{
The original Play Station release of Tomb Raider had higher
quality in-game movies than the later PC release. This FMV pack
restores the better quality.

You need v.1.49 of Glidos http://www.glidos.net installed on
your computer to use this package. Simply allow the archive to install
the FMV folder in your Glidos folder. You need to check "Use FMV pack"
in the Glidos configuration dialog, within the "Audio & Movie" tab.

If you do include a codec pack then make the install of it optional. Alot of people don't like to install codec packs on their systems (for good reason).

Best route would be for your package to only install the specific codec needed and not an entire codec pack (also make the install of that codec optional as well).

Yeah, I don't tend to install them just from general suspicion, so that was why I was intending to just put up a message if h264 support was missing.

What are the "good reasons" by the way? My suspicions aren't really based on anything concrete.

Also, is there a source for h264 codecs that you'd recommend?

My preference would be to distribute the movies in wmv format, but I've jet to find a way to generate wmv files that are anywhere near the quality of the ones I have. File size isn't a big issue, but throwing all the bits I can at wmvs doesn't seem to do the job.

So far, I installed the Essential Pack, but no success.

Windows 7 64bit:

1.) If Glidos Vesa support is enabled, I have a dark Dosbox window, can hear sound ect. but no display.
(checked on the same sytem, backup, without essentials, is the same thing)

2.) V 1_49 don`t switch in full sreen mode, even if I make the setting in the dosbox config to full screen.
(checked on the same sytem, backup, without essentials, is the same thing)

3.) FMV Pack enabled, but no FMV`S, are the some settings at Essentials, I have to do?

It's difficult to tell what's going wrong. Best bet is to uninstall the lot, and then reinstall, not making any changes to the dosbox conf. Initially try not in full screen mode, so you can see if any dialogs pop up.

First time you run Glidos after installing the essentials codec pack, you should get a dialog asking whether to use the pack with glidos.

Sorry, my mistake, I had the old DosBox V 1.0 for Glidos installed, I used now V1.1 and erverything is fine. The FMV`s are better.
Only pending item is the german installation of Glidos, tryed it on 3 PC`s with different Systems, no chance, also no french installation is possible.

cheers Volker

Xvidvideo.ru has some almost daily updated builds of ffdshow:

http://www.xvidvideo.ru/ffdshow-tryouts-project-x86-x64/

Just add a hint, that people don't have to be confused by the russian text at the top of the page - they simply need to scroll down to the list at the bottom of the page and click on the newest version (no. 1 in the list).

Or you link there:

http://xhmikosr.1f0.de/

... where they can find the newest build in the ffdshow folder and some older builds in the "old" subfolder.

Or you link to the ffdshow-tryouts page on sourceforge:

http://ffdshow-tryout.sourceforge.net/

... where it's easy to download the older ffdshow beta 7 build.
