Now, is this supposed to be for SOLELY Glide games, Glide games with software emulation, or Glide games with OpenGL and/or Direct3D? I'm confused as to how explicit this list is supposed to be.

I think it's supposed to be only titles that run in DOS with Glide support (IOW, GliDOS candidates. Just a habit of mine to tack on additional data sometimes).

Windows-only titles. Glide or not should be out, correct?

I had a nice lengthy response to this, and then my login expired. *sigh*

Yes, only "DOS 3dfx Patch" and "DOS 3dfx Native" allowed. I'll also permit "DOS/Windows 3dfx/... Native/Patch" IF the DOS version supported Glide.

NichtSehrGut, you've done a great job, bud. I'll implement your comments and ask that everyone please follow this format while making changes. I never would have thought of this.

We can separate out the Windows Glide games later, I suppose. Maybe someone should keep a list of confirmed Windows Glide games before erasing them. Or keep them in, but sort them separately. Or something. Keep sending those comments, folks! Feel free to edit the list directly (if you can...) I have a backup copy on my PC.

About the connection with http://research.mame.net
Santeri Saarimaa loaned me the webspace to eventually create a website there related to my personal involvement in searching for emulation and arcade information, although the scope of the site may indeed stretch. It will, among other things, be a location for me to leave a "memory dump" of my in-progress searches, and I hope to be able to get together a gang of people who are either interested in searching for emulation/arcade information or are generally good researchers. (Maybe some folks here will like to join eventually...)

One neat feature will be the use of a messageboard as a sort of version control system for information searches. People will post messages, others will respond/edit, and the end result is (hopefully) a finely honed piece of results.

However, this will be a long time in coming. The placeholder's been there for about six months already.

Thanks Stiletto. Actually, I was half-asleep and not feeling all that great so I was actually going mostly "from memory".

"The amazing thing about PC standards is that there are so many of them" applies here as well. I was about to plop the MechWarrior II series under DOS/3dfx patch group when I realized all the variables:

There were both DOS and Windows executables available.
Were both Glide-capable?

Was the 3dfx version actually available as a patch?
I know there were specialized version released with some cards, but never saw a patch.

Was there ever a Direct-3D or OpenGl version available?
I know that there were non-3dfx accelerated versions available, apparently each was a custom release with it's own API.

Even with the "Titanium" release of MechWarrior, Activision wasn't quite clear about support. They list "compatible cards" with no reference to chipsets (3dfx,Rendition,etc...) or API's (Direct3D,OpenGL,Glide,etc...).

Update on that:
http://www.geocities.com/k_lupinsky/index.htm

Appears that the "Titanium" release _was_ Direct3D (and better-looking too...).

All that time and typing...and that was just one game. Ack.

Valid points, all. I never said this was going to be a short-term thing. 😀

BTW, check out this page at that site
http://www.geocities.com/k_lupinsky/FAQ.htm

About a third of the way down the page, it refers to an nvidia NV-1 version. 😀

More info here:
http://www.geocities.com/k_lupinsky/Chacko_Sonny.htm

Care to start a list of NV-1 supporting games at the NV1 thread? 😀
showthread.php?s=&threadid=14

Shouldn't take too long, and I suppose half of them were never released. 😀

Right. Already mentioned here (www.vogons.org/showthread.php?threadid= ... ht=Moody's)

Already part of this list, at least as far as the list of games goes.

Nice. Supposedly, they don't support DOS GLIDE games, so anything on THIS LIST (http://www.stereo3d.com/stercfg.txt) is a Windows GLIDE game or OpenGL game. They don't seem to mention Direct3D.

But the OpenGL ones need parsed out.

Of course, that doesn't mean that the games in their list don't have Direct3D versions, too...

WibbleBoy, a lot of that was bollocks. For example, Archimedean Dynasty did too have a Glide patch.

See?

I appreciate your work, but all this is going to have to be double-checked, either by you or someone else. No offense or anything...

Sorry, I misunderstood what you were asking. If I said it had Direct3D support it was just that, it had Direct3D support, not that it didn't have Glide Support. The Windows/DOS stuff is valid though.

Are you sure? The demo I have, is DOS based and hence can't use Direct3D. Did the full version have a Windows Direct3D version?

Also it is very important to distinguish Direct3D from DirectX (which can mean DirectDraw with no hardware 3D... I think).

Handy thread, BTW: I can see I wont be bored with nothing to do in the new year.
