From about 1999-2007 I stuck to Nvidia Cards,
Then because of problems with overheating 6 and 7 series cards
and improved ATI/AMD reviews I switched, and tried the following:
Radeon HD3450 AGP
Used under windows 2000, not officially supported.
Runs 99% of my games with a certain driver version, but cannot finish 3DMarkSE2001.
Other driver versions, I tried a dozen, run only 60% of my games.
Radeon HD5450 PCI-E
Since I wanted to upgrade a mini-ITX board with just a PCI-E x1 Slot,
I had to use an adapter cable to mount this PCI-E x16 Wide Card.
Operating system Windows XP Prof. 32-bit.
Since I put in this card I have the following problems:
- Hard lockups at random a few times a week. The amount of lockups decreased
With an older driver version
- Sometimes Firefox gets garbled graphics, often followed by a lockup.
Radeon HD6450 PCI-E
Brand new Z68 system, Operating system Windows XP Prof. 32-bit.
Only Driver version 11-4 and 11-5 run IL-2 FB and Unreal Tournament classic in
OpenGL mode without issues. Later drivers show rendering errors.
Call of Duty 1 needs its executable renamed to MOHAA.exe to work.
Later drivers also show horizontal stripes when playing DVD's or AVI's.
X-Wing Alliance gives BSOD. That game and Fighters Anthology also manage to
sometimes trigger garbled graphics which remain visible on the Desktop.
(see attached image)
Intel Sandy Bridge HD Graphics
Operating system Windows XP Prof. 32-bit and 64-bit.
Very Stable, totally reliable. A bit slow. No way to Force Full scene
anti aliasing. Also the Scaling options will only be available when the
desktop resolution is different from the native LCD screen resolution.
The new trouble with the HD6450 has got me disappointed, and I am considering ditching
all ATI/AMD stuff, and try Nvidia Again.
Any advise?
