I created the qbasic directory on the c: drive in dosbox, but I can't get the commands to work. I type in PRINT "Hello" and I get a message back saying Illegal command. What am I missing?

From what I understand, dosbox points to the C: drive on my laptop and starts qbasic from there. But I can do nada.

DOSBox won't automatically start QBasic. You have to run it yourself. You have the qbasic.exe? It does not come with DOSBox.

I've written a program in qbasic and saved it, but I can't figure out how to get it to run!

I got it to save a program I wrote, but I can't figure how to execute the program.

You run it from inside of the qbasic editor. Menu Bar > Run > Start

Or hit, shift+f5

qbasic, the stripped down version included with DOS, does not have a complier to create stand alone .exe files. You'd need to find your self a full copy of QuickBasic to do that.
