Hey guys,
I have been having some problems getting a few games to work properly on Windows 7 x64 for awhile now. None of the issues really hinder gameplay, but I like things to work the way they should and I know I'll run into the same problem in other older games in the future. I've already tried most of what I can find from Google and I recently found out about these forums, maybe you guys will have some new ideas for me to try.
Before I begin, here is my system specs:
Intel Core i5 4670k @ 3.4 GHz
8 GB DDR3 Ram
Gigabyte WF3 OC GTX 970 4 GB
1 TB WD Blue 7200 RPM HDD
MSI Z87-G41 PC-Mate
Corsair CX600M PSU
BioShock
I've played through the entire game and it works perfectly except for a few texture issues in Neptune's Bounty. What looks like Black Squares appear on certain objects when viewed from certain angles or heights. It's most noticeable on the Circus of Value vending machine, some of the proximity mines fired by the Big Daddy, and a couple of the audio diaries. The glitch disappears if I set the game to run in DX9 mode or if I turn off High Detail Post Processing, but obviously neither of these solutions are ideal.
Here is a screenshot of the problem:
BioShock 2
I haven't gotten too far into this game yet, but the only problem I've noticed is that the volume of the guns seem really low compared to the rest of the game.
Legacy of Kain: Soul Reaver
The game returns to the desktop for a brief second before and after every FMV. I think the problem here might be that the screen resolution changes before and after every Bink video instead of just upscaling the Bink video to the resolution I have set for the game. I tried to record a video of the problem but ShadowPlay stops recording right before the Bink videos play, I'm assuming because of the sudden resolution changes.
Legacy of Kain: Soul Reaver 2
Same problem as Soul Reaver.
Thief Gold
Same problem as the Soul Reaver games.
Max Payne
The border of the game is visible before and after the intro video plays.
I've already tried every suggestion I could find to fix these issues including:
- Disabling DEP
- Running in Compatibility Mode for various Windows versions
- Disabling Desktop Composition / Aero / DPI Scaling
- Running as Administrator
- Verifying the Integrity of the game files via Steam
- Disabling / Enabling various Scaling modes in the Nvidia Control Panel
- Using GPU Scaling, also tried with Display Scaling
- Using the Microsoft Compatibility Toolkit to apply the ForceSimpleWindow fix. This solved the issue with Flashing Window Borders in the classic Tomb Raider games, but doesn't seem to do much for these issues.
I've seen videos on YouTube where these games do not have these issues so I'm a little confused as to what the problems could be. Thanks in advance for any ideas.
