Yes, both 320x200 and 800x600 @ viewsize 120.
And my CPU really was working at 3.2 GHz most of the time during DOSBox testing. No idea why but SuperPI works only @ 3.2 as well. Maybe cooling limitation? Quadcore i7 in 14'' laptop is not easy to keep cool.

Thanks for the sharpening.
The limitation below standard CPU specs may to be in bios or somewhwere else by the producer or CPU maker. Also notebooks have several working profiles in OS, maybe was set not the "performance" one. Or there were background processes and hence several cores mode could be used with lower clock. I'll interpolate to the standard clock 3.5 GHz.

I made real HW tests on 2 my PCs:

Pentium PRo @200MHz, i440FX, 192MB, Matrox Millennium II MGA 2164WP
Speed Test /L: 1159236 parrots, 429.8 XT
Quake 320x200 : 42,5 FPS
Quake 800x600 : 14,0 FPS

core i7-2600K @4,5GHz, P67, 4GB, nVidia GeForce 7900GT
Speed Test /L: 30333333 parrots, 11247.1 XT
Quake 320x200 : 457 FPS
Quake 800x600 : 332 FPS
Doom1: timed 3863 gametics in 750 realtics

Phil's theme is for real DOS testing.
It would be interesting to see DOSBox results for Pentium Pro 200. In XP they may to be a little higher, than in 9x.

DOSBox is a 32-bit application, so it probably wouldn't be too much higher, and he would need to run it in NT4 rather than XP as I am pretty sure XP would make it go slower.

OK, I saw on 1st page there are also real PC results for comparison.
And I really don't see a sense of running Dosbox on such slow sub-GHz machines which cannot offer playable emulation speed (the quake demo would take eternity). Even when such old machines can run DOS games native in good speed and with native soud with a real SB.
I'm rather interested in how Dosbox will perform on modern CPUs. Unfortunatelly it still cannot utilize advantage of multiple cores that means the emulation speed had stopped years ago since newer CPUs don't grow in frequency, even newer silicon technology doesn't allow such high overclocks. When I upgraded from E8600 to i7-2600k I was quite disappointed by Dosbox performance gain: if compared at the same freq. 4GHz I got only +4% speed gain and when overclocked i7 to 4,5GHz I got +16% speed gain (in Quake). It's progress for about 4-5 years of CPU evolution. And we cannot expect that CPU frequency will significantly rise in next years, the limit of silicon had been reached. So it would be nice if Dosbox will be rewriten to use SMP/multithread and VTx. I belive it could be paralelized - more instructions decoding threads or so...

Speed Test results on Celeron 300 were significantly higher in XP (with core=normal: +30% in Doom, >50% in speedtst). P3 500 had much smaller difference. P200 MMX did not work correctly with DOSBox in Win9x at all (0.3 XT). Seems there are DOSBox 0.74 issues with small cache CPUs in Win9x.

It's additional info for comparision, not part of the 2 testing sections. There is already close P200.
While P4 and later machines are post DOS machines and their performance is not so interesting. Other thing - their hardware was not designed for DOS and may give big difference on same CPUs, - video card or something else affect this, - it's hard to say is the result near max or was bottlenecked.

And I really don't see a sense of running Dosbox on such slow sub-GHz machines

XT games may be played, I suppose. May be useful for booters and CPU sensitive ones. Without data it's still unknown where is practical limit.

which cannot offer playable emulation speed (the quake demo would take eternity)

You may do 1st subsection only. Speedtst and Doom, all 4 measures in sum probably take a couple of hours on your CPU.

When I upgraded from E8600 to i7-2600k I was quite disappointed by Dosbox performance gain: if compared at the same freq. 4GHz I got only +4% speed gain

There is a little of progress. According to the chart, i7 4xxx with same frequency is 40% faster than C2D.

So it would be nice if Dosbox will be rewriten to use SMP/multithread and VTx. I belive it could be paralelized

DOSBox on modern CPUs works fast for any DOS stuff or close to this. The only multithreading wich is needed is Voodoo emulation wich is not officially supported still.

Hi, I had some time yesterday to run test in Dosbox on my Pentium Pro 200 Machine. It doesn't run as slow I expected, Quake timedemo took maybe only 0,5-1hour to complete 😉

Results [ core dynamic/normal]:

Speedtest: 6300 parrots (2.3 XT) / 2110 parrots (0.8 XT)
Doom demo 3: 2,94 FPS / 1,02 FPS
Quake timedemo 1, 320x200: 1,3 FPS / 0,4 FPS
Quake timerefresh at newgame start postition, 320x200: 1,209 FPS / 0,298 FPS

Thank you. What OS did you use?

> Speedtest: 6300 parrots (2.3 XT) / 2110 parrots (0.8 XT)

Was the procedure as recommended? The previous data about PPro 200 I had was 4.4 XT in dynamic what is twice higher. Doom fps in dynamic was previously higher in 1.5 times - 4.3 fps
In XP performance may to be more, probably this is the reason of the difference.

It's still needed:
- Speedtst performance in pure DOS
- Quake demo1 in 800x600 (with "viewsize 120" similarly as was in 320x200). Quake testing is done in dynamic mode only. And Quake part was mostly intended for faster CPUs.

Used OS was WinXP SP3. Dosbox 0.74 from official page with default config and then set as described in 1st post. I did not used /L option as it would take extra long time.
Real HW (DOS) test was posted before: Re: DOSBox 0.74 CPU Benchmark

Thanks.
/L in DOSBox for P4 and later
The reason of the 1.5-2x performance difference stays unknown: background applications and processes, other OS, settings, losing the focus by an emulator's window, testing not after reboot but after running some apps ...

It's very fresh installaltion of XP with drivers only and file manager. When running just dektop is shows only a few % of cpuload in task manager. During test I have only the dosbox running on the desktop and didn't touched KB/mouse. And it was done some minute after boot when everything loaded and HDD went silent.

SP3 may affect or previously was other OS

Background processes may affect memory management or take other resources besides CPU. Settings of virtual memory or something else.
