Every system I touch I try to get 7-zip benchmark results for. It gets installed on every system and is pretty quick to run. So here is my collection to share with you. There are some anomalies that you might notice. I probably will know why, so just ask.
Edit: Here is an online Google Sheet. It is editable so you can add your own scores, or post screenshots and I will add them every once in awhile.
Please do not reorganize the spreadsheet, sort by different columns, etc. If you want to do this, download it and change your copy of it.
Edit: in some brief testing, I got slightly faster results with 7-zip version 16.02 vs version 9.20. Let's try to keep the results consistent by sticking with the old (9.20) version.
CPU: Pentium D 940 (3.4Ghz)
OS: XP 32-bit
version 09.20 results: 3311 MIPS, 2930 compress, 34927 decompress
version 16.02 results: 3359 MIPS, 2959 compress, 37591 decompress
OS: antiX MX-15 linux 64-bit
version 09.20 results: 3359 MIPS, 3115 compress, 36162 decompress
note: most (all?) linux repos use the 9.20 version of 7-zip.
Directions to run on linux:
if not already installed, install the package p7zip-full.
Run from the command line:
7z b
Use the 32 MB dictionary size. on the linux version this is defined as 25 (2^25=32MB).
Here is a comparison screenshot between Windows and linux versions. The colored rectangles represent equivalent values.
The more I learn, the more I realize how much I don't know.
