Hi,

Can anyone tell me if Dosbox supports USB for joysticks so the game thinks that it is running of the game port?? If not is this a planned development for the future?

Cheers,

Stuart

What OS are you running in?

I have a USB gamepad in WinXP SP2 and DOSBox detects it and makes it available as an emulated gameport joystick for games running inside of DOSBox. I haven't tested to see how well it works though.

USB Joysticks are most certainly supported in Dos Box. In fact, the Dos Box developpers recommend a USB Game Controller for Dos Box over a Gameport based one.

Hi,

Are there any dosbox related commands I need to activate it? Because it did not seem to detect it when I tried. I am running in Windows XP.

Cheers,

Stuart

No, it should work as it is. When you start DOSBOX, there are two windows. One is the DOSBOX shell, in another there are various messages. At the beginning there should be a message about a joystick being detected.
BTW: remember that any joystick you have will work as a simple joystick in DOSBOX (I think 2 axes, four buttons (?)).

I am running XP with a Logictech Freedom joystick and not only does it work I can use the Logitech SW to configure buttons even in Privateer.
That said, I can not get it to work with Armada?? 😢 If I get a old Gameport Joystick will that help to get Armada to recognize it?

NO. You will just slow down DOSBOX.
I have no idea why the joystick does not work in that specific game (nothing is perfect - probably a bug in DOSBOX). I did not test the game.

Thanks Merik, too bad, I have read miles of Threads on this subject on this site as well as Wing Commader CIC, nobody seems to know how to make it work. I guess it's back to my DOS machine for this one.
