Hi, guys 😀 I'm newbie here, just install nostalgic Far Cry ( 4CD license release from 2004, without any mods ) and 64-bit patch, everything looks fine, except landmass reflections. So, what about current status of reflections fix ? Does it break performance or what ?

Also fixable by putting and atiumdag.dll from an older driver into the bin32 folder.

This will probably not work on Windows 8 and above and with the newest videocards.

Eh, on a 4790k + 1070 while framerate is generally good (lowest is 75), there are nasty short freezes that aren't there when running native DX. AMD users might be luckier.

Well, feel free to experiment with all the other atiumdag too.

This one works too and also includes the 64bit version.

The others seem to be too old for my graphics card. The game crashes instantly.

I tried it on an i7 with a GTX 660 and performance was no good enough 😒

This fix seems like a good start, and I'm glad to see some movement on this issue (for years it felt like I was one of 3 people who cared).

However, the performance penalty is likely to be unacceptable for a lot of people. I measured a drop from ~250fps to ~70fps in some preliminary tests. More importantly (for me at least), the game stutters with V-Sync on, which I find to be a deal breaker. The fix also seems to break AA and AF via the NVCP. Another amusing issue is that FRAPS screenshots are inverted.

It's not like I haven't asked for 10 times, somebody to try XP drivers on Vista (SP0 preferably) to see if the problem is WDDM or the system itself.

And asked for a PIX frame.

Tried it on an i7 4770k and GTX 770 with 4GB of VRAM over here and it was very laggy. Nothing below 30 FPS but it still was not as smooth as it could be.

And for the sake of (past vs present) comparison, this is the same spot but with Far Cry 2010 (http://www.moddb.com/mods/farcry-2010 - the landmass reflections are correct in this mod, so d3d9 all the way and no need for fixes 😀 )

Far_Cry_2016_05_22_23_56_52_401.png

Because in this mod added rocks and plants objects on max density, that is reflecting) Landmasses still missing.

Landmass reflections works fine with 1.1 patch on Nvidia videocards. That patch not contain 3.0 shaders, but graphic in game absolute not having differences. Well, maybe very very little.

Also in OpenGL mode performance with this patch is best then in later patches, and not having graphic bugs.

Last Staging version ( http://downloads.adolfintel.com/geth.php?r=wined3dst-latest ) of WineD3D for Windows is working well 😀
But the image in the taken (with MSI Afterburner) screenshot is flipped, 🤣

Confirmed. And performance is little best than on previous version.

That's the issue I was referring to above with FRAPS. The game's own screenshot function (default key=F12) does not have this problem.

I'm seeing a 10fps performance improvement with that new WineD3D version. The V-Sync stutter issue that I mentioned may be gone. certain NVCP functions still don't work. Along with AF and AA (fortunately the game has it's own), you can't use force highest refresh. NVCP V-Sync does work, which is lucky because the in-game V-Sync doesn't (pretty sure in-game V-Sync setting is broken even without WineD3D. While you can't force regular AA via the NVCP, you can use it to apply Transparency Supersampling AA.

I just realized that the performance impact when using WineD3D is caused by a CPU bottleneck (I assumed it was GPU), which is the worst bottleneck given how CPU advances slowed to a crawl around 2011.

If you have an AMD gpu that may be due to their OpenGL driver not being multithread.
Otherwise if you are on nvidia, you might need to force __GL_THREADED_OPTIMIZATIONS env var.

Or make a .bat with it?

SET __GL_THREADED_OPTIMIZATIONS=1 (???)
.\Bin32\FarCry.exe
