So I found this listing while checking eBay for computers and parts.
http://www.ebay.com/itm/Compusa-tower-compute … 3AAAOSwMtxXr2o4

A nice looking Pentium III box, a basement find supposedly, listed as a case but seemingly complete. Might be a good addition to my collection, and there was a make offer button, so I asked the guy for a picture of the insides and got a response.

Ohhhhhh boy. I sort of suspected at this point there might be something afoot, and the next day, I got this.

I'm considering sending instructions on how to remove the hard drive, because for some reason I really like the old CompUSA tower style 🤣 🤣

But seriously, I saved some guy from paying like $60 for a computer that has someone's tax info on it. Actually, it wouldn't even be shipped, the dad would've stopped it, probably. 🤣

Those things were total junk. My dad had one with a 400mhz celeron. Total garbage, but it did work.

umm ok.

It is a mistake to think you can solve any major problems just with potatoes.

This sounds a lot like mom said "hey, if you help clear out this old junk you can have the money for selling it!" and then dad came along later and said "nooooooo, I still need that for my 1998 tax returns!" I bet there were some sour grapes at the family dinner table. 😜

I just revived a Tandy 2500 hard disk that ended up having tax info and a bunch of personal information in WOrks for Windows 3.0...

My old 486 had Quattro Pro for Win3.1 housing files (locked with a password, albeit) on the 250MB hard disk before I formatted it.

486 era encryption? could be broken by most modern systems.

Honestly, 486 era proprietary encryption could be good. Nobody's cared about it for so long it would probably have to be reverse engineered from scratch.
