Yes, the 6800XT ran at 300/533 and the 6200 ran at 350/533 both cards are 64-bit.

Can do a GPU-Z, but I've already put it back into the P3 1GHz machine that it was in before. Hopefully that won't hamper the reading in any way.

Yeah, my mistake, I hastily read past that part... this "6800XT" is basically like the geforce 6500 performance wise isn't it? In witch case OP is much better off with the 9800 XT

I think the story behind these things is they use partly defective chips, like some 6800LE cards (got two of those, one unlocks perfectly fine to 16p, the other artifacts when unlocked) and nvidia decided to make money of them. They should have named these something else.

The 6800XT was to use up old NV40, NV41 and NV42, not all where defective, I had one I bought in 2007, an AGP version and it unlocked fully to 16ps/6vs with a 256bit bus, an XFX with 1000mhz GDDR3. The issue is the 6800XT wasn't really a standard just a statement to go use the NV40, 41 and 42 to clear out the stock

It supported 9c, aka it supported SM3, what it doesn't support is HDR SM3 which is what the 3dmark06 tests use, they test with HDR on, no HDR support no SM3 tests

the 6200 supports the 3dm06 SM3.0 tests, it supports "HDR" the same way as the 6800 (and 7 series I think).

if you look on the 3dmark page you can see 6200 results with the SM3.0 tests results

Exacly.
HDR is only missing when Anti-Aliasing is on (and even then it's only if game actualy uses MSAA and specific type of HDR textures combo I think, like old Oblivion [in which both GF6000 and GF7000 series cards can't do HDR w/AA on]).

GPU-z is Windows independent, if driver is installed correcly, it will show everything OK.

Basicly, your GPU supports SM3.0 and HDR (just like mine), but it can't run SM3 test for some odd reason...

Q: Did you updated 3DMark 06, DirectX and C++ runtimes to latest versions before testing ?

Just FYI, Pentium III can run SM3/HDR test :

Not sure about the fundamentals, but it looks like I wasn't the only one who wasn't able to test SM3.0 with 3DMark 06 on my 6200.

I tried to run 3DMark06 with my unlocked PCIE GF6200 (nv43a2). But 3DMark06 unselected the HDR/SM3.0 tests and gave me a score of 1150. We all know that this is exactly the same chip on GF6600 with HDR and SM3.0 capabilities, and I was wondering why 3DMark06 had disabled the HDR/SM3.0 tests. Then I found that Nvidia had configured the drivers to disable HDR capabilities (not SM3.0) of all 6200 cards by default. The solution was in RivaTuner again. I went to NVStrap driver settings and did the followings
- selected "custom" for "Graphics adapter identification"
- selected "0141 (NVIDIA GeForce 6600) PCI Device ID"
- and selected "Use ROM straps for PCI DeviceID programming" option

After clicking "Apply" RivaTuner rebooted the computer and Windows recognized the card as 6600 this time. I had to reinstall the ForceWare driver, and reset the overclocking again to 600/1300 using coolbits. With these done, 3DMark06 ran the HDR/SM3.0 tests and the score came to 1650 from 1150.

Just to let others know how to enable HDR with unlocked GF6200's without cross flashing to 6600.

I guess candle might be right after all, it just may be driver locked.

Still, "hack" basicly forces 6600 driver onto 6200 card, which re-enables "lost HDR" features on that 6200 series card.
It should work (in theory at least) on any 6200 series card.

PS. I don't know if simple 6600 series "forced" manual driver installation can do this as well.

I never heard of this before, always that the 6200 had exactly the same support as any other Geforce 6, even the 6100 I had (same thing but only 2 pipelines) can run the SM3.0 tests on 3dm06 (VERY slowly)
it seems more like a driver bug, and as I said if you look around you can find SM3.0 results on 3dm06 for the 6200.

No idea why on their part but offically 6200 and 7100GS do not support HDR or UltraShadowII but do support the rest of SM3
