Don't know if this needs to be in "Marvin" so will try here. Having trouble getting this game to run smoothly on my Win98 system -see sig for specs. A lot of it is probably due to a crappy CD/DVD drive but also for when I run the game's hardware test it's trying to say my DirectX version is 4 when actually it is version 9.0c.

So in a nutshell, can anyone recommend any system specs. that might run this game better and what directX version might be a little less "twitchy"?

X-Wing Alliance? I run it on an 3,3 GHz Ivy Bridge system with Windows XP SP3 😉.... Used the XWA hacker fixedclear patch though for the radeon videocard specific glitches. On intel HD graphics it runs fine without any modifications.
There was this issue though: If you use the latest v2.02 patch, it may want to use A3D audio when it finds (leftover) A3D related dll files in your system.

If it's reporting the version of your DirectX DLLs, then it will always start with 4. The DLLs for DirectX 9 would be 4.09.xx.

Thanks Jorpho for responding. Ok that makes sense about the DLLs, but forgot to mention that it lists some that are missing. Is this because it's looking for older version DLLs? My other games run fine no problem.

It's a bit pointless to speculate without knowing which ones.

You mentioned in your other thread that you have Daemon Tools. For testing purposes, why not just take your optical drive out of the equation, and see if it works with a BIN/CUE image?
