I've been wanting to do a dual Athlon MP build for the last year or so.
I started out with 2 MSI K7D boards. Both of them "worked" but had a few small issues. In addition to the small issues they both would BSOD during the XP install with error 7b. They also came from a recycling center and included 4 Athlon MP 2800+s with 4 nice heatsinks so I didn't mind that they didn't work and just put them in my dead motherboard pile.
The next board I got was a iwill MPX2 (A hard to find board). This one came from a small PC shop who was going to use it for a ultimate PC build around 2003. It POSTed fine but while installing XP onto it it also ended with a BSOD with error 7b. This board was sold as-is and came with a bunch of other goodies that were going to be used in the ultimate PC build so I didn't mind it not working either.
The fourth board I got is a Tyan S2466. This board was one of four sold as 100% working by an ebay seller. With the other three buyers leaving positive feedback I decided to buy the last one. It was packed very well and when it arrived I did a full visual inspection and did not notice issues with the board. I set it up only to have the XP install on it end with stop error 7b as well.
The stop errors all came up during the first stage of the install right after loading all the drivers. I plan to delve into the issue further tomorrow by trying some different operating systems and components, but I'd figure I'd ask here in case anyone had the same issue and knows what is wrong.
