You had the link six posts above yours 😉 I've helped Anonymous Coward shipping such card to China: VL/EISA SMP Pentium (turbocharged).

Thanks! Now I just have to play the waiting game! 😀

I will probably stumble on a few other Socket 4 motherboards before I find an Acer J3 active backplane motherboard though. 😁

New processor for my AM2 WindowsXP-32 water cooled build over here: ..

AMD Athlon X2 7750 Black Edition. 2nd fastest chip in the AMD Athlon X2 Microprocessor Family, the one just before the Athlon II x2's came out later.

As usual with ebay sellers that sell cpu's for $11 .. they shipped with pin protection but must of been bent before he put it in there because almost all of the pins on the outer 2 rows all the way around were bent horribly. I've moved almost all of em back into position now, or close enough. Spent about 45 minutes straigtening em. 😵 😢

I have the same CPU, this Athlon X2 (along with other Kuma based Athlon X2s) is basically a Phenom X4 with 2 cores disabled, it keeps the 2 MB L3 cache from the Phenom, but despite the specs, is called Athlon X2 and not Phenom X2. Some motherboard can unlock the extra cores with some degree of sucess. Anyways, good luck with that CPU

Are you sure 65nm Phenom can unlock? The later 45nm variants sure... but I've never heard about successful unlocking 65nm one.

The last SX835 to sell on CPU-World forums sold for $17. Yours has the PROCESSOR logo so maybe $25.

I bought a asus nct-d to replace my dead one. I had it setup on a bench, replaced a burnt out cpu 8pin header and started to test it. It was working fine for abit, then it started shorting out all over the place. I kind of regret not taking a photo, the back of the board was gone. Literally it now has a black pcb. But I trashed it. Truly a sad day as they are both very rear and a beast of a board.

Well the seller of the replacement was not very friendly and I don't have high hopes for the replacement.
I bought it on eBay from a seller in hongkong. Payed 41$ for ups 2day mail, shortly after seller stated tha 41$ would not cover the cost of shipping... he didn't ask for more money at first so I bet he's been down this road before. He offer to ship via a slower service then refund me the difference. I told him to try looking into the cost of other mail carriers. Well he more or less refuse to ship it 2day or even ems. Said ems would cost 7$ more and refused to ship it. I stood my ground and let him message me for a day. After he ranked up serval policy violations I threatened to get eBay involved, but he still refused. I left a nag feedback and told him he had 24 hours to get it shipped. That shut him up and he shipped it 2day.

I was more then far, I offered him to not only ship it via FedEx/dhl or anyone else but evan said he could ship it ems to save money.
I hope he learned his lesson, no one tells me to that it will cost 41$ to ship something only to state that it costs 80$. Its a hard lesson, but an important one. You can't say shipping will cost something only to ask for more after the buyer pays, certainly not on eBay.

Just found an Avermedia C127 on eBay. Yay for VGA/component and HDMI video capture for cheap. $45 shipped.

Make sure it comes with a driver CD, apparently AVerMedia pulled all the old drivers. They will provide them when you contact them though.

I mitigated the shipping cost by buying a €6 386 motherboard, two video cards (VLB + ISA) for €5 euro each and some other items. 😀

As mentioned before, that is the CPU card for the J3 active backplane developed by Acer. It was sold in computer systems from several different vendors. Ambra and Apricot are the two that I'm aware of. There is a backplane currently being sold on ebay with a 486 CPU card, though the price isn't very attractive.

Thanks.

I will inspect the CPU card when it gets here and if it looks good I will probably make an offer on the backplane. As you guessed I'm not willing to pay $151.5 (with shipping) for an untested backplane though even if it would be a fun system to tinker with.

Yep, already found that out. I found a page that has them posted and went ahead and downloaded them.

I still remember, Logitech Wingman Warrior uses serial mouse driver for its spin controller.

Another week, another visit to the car boot sale 😀

Got a big box full of various stuff for 5 Euros from one guy. Most of the stuff was junk or not working, however it did contain some worthwhile goodies:

S370 board, i815 chipset. Can't find anything that would ID the manufacturer. 4 total bulging caps. Hopefully new ones will bring some life into it.

It looks identical to my DFI CS62-TC: here's the thread I made about it.

Mine had a coulpe of bulging capacitors, but even though I did a complete recap it just doesn't want to work. The standby and RAM LEDs do light up, so it gets power but other than that nothing, not even a single beep out of the speaker. I noticed that the chip on the top right corner gets incredibly hot, so probably there is some failure there.

I wish you better luck than me with the board 😢

I think that's exactly what it says on the white barcode sticker: CS62-TC

Those who don't think PCI-E hardware is old enough to be interesting can close their eyes now! 😁

I bought another somewhat expensive Socket 939 motherboard. This motherboard isn't as "iconic" as the The DFI LanPARTY CFX3200 (I got my 20 euro refund for the damaged cap btw) but it wasn't as expensive either. This is also an ATI(AMD) RD580 chipset motherboard and the features, performance and overclockability should not be very different from the DFI motherboard.

The price ended up 49 euro with shipping but there are some other nice stuff included. An Athlon X2 4800+ CPU, a nice cooler and 4x1GB DDR memory.

Ok, so have a few more things on the way for my project.

1. Midiman Mini Macman - 1x1 serial midi for MAC. Going to see if it will work on a PC with SOFTMPU. Just have to make or get a MAC to PC serial cable.

2. Atlona AT-HD500 PC/VGA to HDMI Scaler - to scale DOS resolutions so I can capture in resolutions that my capture card supports.

3. MachOne (Opti935) PCI sound card - cause it was cheap and I want as many sound cards as I can get that work in DOS for my upcoming project.

Edit:

Have a mini din8 to db25 cable on the way now 😎
