The Aztech cards very system speed sensitive and are noisier than Creative, in my experience.

Could you tell me anything about the speeds at which certain Aztech cards start to misbehave?
Would these still run on a Pentium 1 for instance?

Once the stuff I have ordered arrives, I will be able to answer this.

Some people say that they don't work properly past 133Mhz, other posts I have seen just say they don't use them on anything faster than a 486.

Use DOSBox for early 90's. Build a good Win98 box with an Aureal SQ2500 + Roland SCD-15 if wavetable MIDI is most important, or a Sound Blaster AWE64 if not. Although good luck finding it all.

How about 97-99? Do you have any recommendations for those years as well?
