Had to install powerstrip to mess with the hz since it just shows up as a default monitor for me, however I was able to run at 100hz 1280x720 just fine using the test above, the game ran at 100fps with 3 frames skipped, ran really smooth actually.

That's great, thank you! 😀

Something I just realized and a very important note --

Due to the fact that the a custom .INF and custom resolution is required to exceed 1080p over analog (VGA) this unfortunately means that it is NOT possible to use the 1600x1200 resolution in DOS. I was wondering why the monitor kept reverting to 720x400 @ 70 whenever I would edit DUKE3D.CFG and manually set the resolution to 1600x1200... this is why. I'd be curious to know if any late DOS games that actually support 1600x1200 (from the menu ? ) and can launch from within Windows 98 would work but I'm not aware of any such games and probably don't own them if they exist.

Blood can switch resolution in game.

Does the in-game menu include 1600x1200 or does it cap at 1280x1024 like software Quake? Also can Blood be launched from inside Windows?

I'm waiting on 40+inch 4k hdr 240hz no input lag, it's actually not that far off. display port does 4k 120hz, next hdmi, 2.1 will do 10k@120, but for now monitor makers are wasting people's time with 27/28" 4k monitors. 2018 fingers crossed.

What about using DVI in DOS for 1600x1200?

The 1080p resolution limitation only applies to VGA. Custom resolutions are not needed for 1600x1200 when using the DVI-DL, HDMI or DP. I don't have a VGA to DVI-D adapter -- only a VGA to DVI-I -- or I'd be doing this myself. Then again, I don't think a 550mhz K6 is up to software rendering 1600x1200 - I will probably save that for my P4 build assuming the FX5900 can play nice with DOS for these potentially high-res games.

Of course.

In my opinion, a perfect retro gaming LCD should be 4:3 or 5:4. 16:9 displays leave those annoying black bars to the sides witch bug me to no end.

If you have money to burn, you can buy brand new, modern 19" 5:4 1280x1024 or 21" 4:3 1600x1200 LED backlit IPS displays made by Eizo or Iiyama, but older second had displays can be had for cheap and work much better then any modern 16:9 display.

21" 4:3 1600x1200 LED backlit IPS

No support for 70hz = useless/DOS BOX only.

Not necessarily. They all take the signal, but IPS screens often interpolate the frames to 60 Hz. You can test this with smooth scrolling games or demos for example.
