Hmm, have not heard of that SBF96 before...

Bought a few other dual mode ones from Logitech, but those are native USB and not PS2 - only via adapter, which seems to not work at all here.

Tried ordering the SBF96 on ebay. Will see what happens when it arrives... 😀

Hope it is not too lightweight compared to my other mice.
(that HP mouse I tested, most likely a Logitech oem, was way too light for my taste...)

Dell had at least one modell with a heavy metal insert to solve this. I also prefer the heavier mice.

-What power does it expect? Also the (+) is at the center of the socket?
-(Depending on previous answer of course) Can I take it from the PC's PSU? A molex for example?

-> if you install the 7805 you can feed it something like 9v
-> else you can feed it 5v directly from a molex, no 7805 needed in that case

or use 7805 and feed 12V from Molex.

It does look like the DC plug center pin is GND and barrel is supply voltage.

7805 center pin is definitely GND.

Thank you guys, I had left the 7805 as the last component on purpose because of my questions. So I won't solder it and just use the 5V from a molex.
Only remaining thing now is to make sure that the center pin of the socket is ground and the surrounding is voltage.

Does anyone else have a 4-port KVM with audio to test this converter with? If one does not exist which functions normally, the converter will, unfortunately, be of little use for my purposes.

I do, let me figure out first where to connect ground and voltage and I'll report back on how it does with my KVM. I read earlier in this thread that you have already built and tested your adapter, so I assume you got it correctly, perhaps you could help on this?

I will not have time for awhile. I'm digging and building a large retaining wall on my property line. I'll be working on this until late evening for some weeks. I just stumbled in now to get some water and check my email.

I have made this quick pic , it shows the 2 pins you can use to power the adapter directly with +5v/gnd (without the 7805 installed) and the psu polarity when the 7805 is installed. Hope it helps.

I really thought the psu polarity was the other way around, luckily there is a protection diode for thoughts like that 🤣 🤣 🤣

-If I don't install the 7805 I need to power directly these 2 pins with 5V and NOT the socket?
-I can use the socket (with 12V to the outer of the barrel) only if the 7805 is soldered?

if you are not installing the 7805 then it is better to use the 2 points in the pic, else you would need make some bridges to connect 7805 input to 7805 output. Every combo is possible but it may require some modification in the form of bridges , if you explain exactly how you are thinking of powering the adapter I can tell you what goes where 😀

I'm flexible, I haven't soldered the 7805 yet 😀 I wanted to learn about the options though since I'm obviously not knowledgeable enough.
What's certain is that I'll take power from a molex. So since I've soldered the socket already, I guess the easiest thing is to solder the 7805 as well and feed the socket 12V.
