Yeah, I finally got the small system I am restoring (AMD 5200+, 3GB) up and running with the stock X1950 Pro 512MB AGP card. Getting a 3DMark05 score of 9995 which is pretty good and most definitely faster than the stock NVidia 7800GS and 7900GS AGP cards. So I think I did good on this purchase for sure and didn't pay even close to the higher prices of the used 7x00 AGP cards.

If it is the reference version you can use the cooler from a 8800 GTS 512 but not the G80 version due to the base of the cooler where the vrm and vram make contact though you could possibly mount but you will run into problems with the coils ect being in the way. The single slot coolers could have worked but the design was poor and vapor chambers for graphics cooling was practically nonexistent at the time. I am sure some here still remember the cardboard mods that people did with their 8800 GTX/Ultra where one made a quick cut out then fitted near the end of the card where some of the heat vents out into the case then removed a couple of slot blanks so it would be open. Fun era and for all that was bad about it that era was a lot more fun/work than what people tinker with these days.

Just went ahead and bought an ATI MACH64 2MB VRAM VLB from another eBay user for more then half the price of today's Swedish auction. It has only standard 2MB but it's enough for me. And yes, it's tested or at least I'm covered by eBay and PayPal.

Now to find ISA VRAM version also tested... there was one on sale last week. But it was untested and price over the top.

Now I can go back to renovating the "new" house. OK... one room at a time 😁

Just got this today (the blue one). I already have one, but the price was too good. Is there really any difference between the two? The new one is certainly heavier.

The second one is the OC model with an objectively superior cooler.

I remember forgiving to plug the power connector on an Nvidia 8800GT. The PC didn't POST and there was an odd sound that didn't sounded like a PC-Speaker beep. I'm pretty sure it was just a speaker on that card that made that noise

In the home stretch of restoring and upgrading a Gateway 450. To those who benchmark a bit let me ask you if these are normal numbers.

System now is:

440BX Mobo AGP 2x 100 FSB
P-III 850/256/100
512MB RAM
FX5900 128MB
Corsair 450W SFX PSU
Windows 98SE

3DMark2001 default settings = 6200
GPU Temps max out at 66C during benchmark

Does that sound about right with this config? I know that's a low score for the 5900, but I am thinking the system is holding it back with the low FSB, AGP 2x, etc.

They're bot the OC model. I think i'm going to use the new one with the better cooler. Hopefully that means it'll last longer.

Bought this Asus P5A from eBay. Was lucky and get rev 1.04 (seller had crap photos and messages disabled). Have not powered it on yet. I thought I saw something weird with the VIO (3.5V is lowest it can go but the K6 it came with says 3.3V?).

Also picked up these freebie, Mushkin DDR1 PC3500. Not tested yet. I'm so behind.

Found a new goodwill store and i've fallen in love. Spent $22 and got:

Some niced boxed hardware in the clearance aisle of a local computer shop. PCI 10/100 NIC, PCMCIA 56k/10/100 card and 3.5" floppy/CD cleaner.

Also, I set up a deal to purchase any pre-2000 hardware they may get for recycling. Hopefully this will yield good things 😀

3$ on local flea market . Can't test it as fas as voltage in my country is 220v. Need 220v->120v converter.
