Went thrifting a couple of days ago and found a GX150 for $25. Didn't think much of it and left. Spent most of the day yesterday thinking about it and decided to try and go back and get it, but the shop was closed when I got there. I rarely see computers of any kind at this particular store so I figured it'd be gone. Leaving work today, the wife looked at me and said let's go get it, you know it's going to drive you nuts until you find out if it's there or not...and it was!

The case is a little beat up, and there is a ton of dust on the inside, but it seems to run ok. It's got a 1ghz Coppermine, but I don't believe the board is the second revision that can take Tualatin's natively. Does anyone know of a way to check the chipset revision by sight on the board without having to use something like CPU-Z? I really don't want to have to load up an OS just to run one program for a few seconds just yet.

I did notice what I think are bulging caps on the board though. Can anyone confirm?

Pics Here

If all is well with the board, this machine throws a wrench into my builds as I don't know where to slot it in. Oh well, still nice to have my first Coppermine!

Those are definitely bulging caps in your pictures.

I don't have any personal experience with those Dells, but from what I've heard they are notorious for having cheap capacitors.

Looks like this story is going to have a quick ending. Put it all back together and POP

I'll try to salvage what I can, but I have the making for a decent end of 98 machine here.

Honestly, I really only bought the thing hoping the board would be a Tualatin capable one, but it's not. Still feel like I got my $25 worth. 1ghz coppermine, 2x256MB PC133 sticks, couple new drives to add to the pile.
