I love that case. Nice amalgamation of ATX with the extra port knockouts like a proper AT case.

Awesome price for a PPro, though.

What a coincidence. I just bought one of these boards along with a PPro 200 and am testing it out right now.

Lovely system you got, at a terrific price and with a funny story to tell 😁.

A trip to a carboot sale and 4 Euros just got me a mystery speed Slot-1 P3 coppermine and a (quite dusty) Radeon DDR 64MB

The p3 coppermine without the plastic casing: is there any way to see what speed it is?

I can get lots of those at the recycler but it is always a wild guess. No cache chips means coppermine i get that, but otherwise i have no clue as to what speed it is... At least with the old celerons they had a little white lable with the speed written on it.

I tried googling all the numbers on it, but found nothing.
My Slot 1 board (440bx from Aopen) always misjudges and sets the CPU speed slower that it's rated for by default so I guess there is no way to know. At least for now.

EDIT: OK, I just realized that since P3's have locked multipliers, jumper-less multiplier motherboards should be able to pick up the multiplier right away and avoid any errors there. From that point it's a matter of testing FSB speeds and seeing which one doesn't crash.

Pretty tedious and no way to check quickly, but it should work...

Saw a Guillemot Maxi Studio ISIS pop up on eBay for cheap and grabbed it immediately.

It is missing the daughterboard so I won't be able to hook up the external box but for the price I couldn't pass it up.

Seller also said it comes what he thinks is the original shipping box even though it wasn't pictured.

Supposedly this card also has DOS support, so we will see how it fares once I get it.

The chipset is an ESS Maestro 2-EM and the wavetable is a Dream 9707.

It has 4MB onboard RAM and the official specs say it can be upgraded to 36MB RAM. I saw somewhere that the chipset supports up to 64MB so I may try a larger stick IF I can get one cheap enough.

Sellers pic:

Google archived magazine article that has a mini review along with some other cards.
https://books.google.com/books?id=0QEAAAAAMBA … s%20DOS&f=false

Really interested in knowing how compatible it is with Dos. I have an ISA card with a dream chip on it, though it sucks for OPL, it has a real nice sound to it. Little lesser authentic sounding instruments than the Dreamblaster-S1, yet a lot warmer in the sound quality. The Dreamblaster actually sounds more metallic or cold than my Tango card. None the less, both sounds really awesomme. So the question is, how does your card actually sound, compared to something like the Dreamblaster-S1/X1/X2 daughterboards, and how well does it play OPL.

I meant finding out the speed by the numbers only. Using actual hardware and software i found a way: hwinfo32
It gives the actual s-spec number(s) for the cpu, that way you can be certain what speed it is. Otherwise it is very difficult as for example my 750mhz runs also fine at 7,5x133 (1ghz).
Using this and a Via based (133fsb, jumperless) board i managed to find out about several ''naked'' slot1 cpu's i got.

I would like to know if those numbers printed on the core mean anything and have some logic. That way i can know which to buy at the scrapper, as they all arrive there without the plastics.

Different speed CPUs in the same family use the same die, with minor tweaks to set the stock speed. If you overclock (or underclock) the processor, hwinfo32 will give s-spec numbers that correspond to the speed you are running at. So it is no guarantee that it is accurate unless your board auto detects the correct speed. There are no programming routines to detect what speed it should be running at. As such, the s-specs returned by the app cannot be guaranteed to be correct.

For example, if you run your 750MHz processor at 133 MHz fsb instead of 100, hwinfo32 will give you the s-specs for a 1 GHz processor.

See my graphics card database at www.gpuzoo.com
Constantly being worked on. Feel free to message me with any corrections or details of cards you would like me to research and add.

I have the pictures of the hard drive and many others.

Gravis Stinger serial game pad - already found working driver combo for XP and up. Original drivers for W9x included. This gamepad is very special, not only the only serial one I know of, but also the analogue stick works with "magnetic sensors", which is rather odd for game pads.

Nice add-on. It's interesting that the card does much more than memory extension.

True that... I wanted the expandability in my Amiga. Anyway.... Bought more.

If various reviews/benchmarks of the day were correct, this is supposed to be a really fast HDD (Maxtor D740X-6L). They were apparently designed by Quantum, which would explain why it physically looks more like a Fireball.

No... i tried with 3 different cpu's: a 600 (6x100) a 800 (6x133) and a 1ghz (7,5x133), all coppermine's.

Nomatter what speed i set the fsb/cpu i always get the same (right) Sspec number from hwinfo32. I can run the 600@800mhz and 600@400mhz but it keeps giving me numbers for a 600 cpu.
Same with the 1ghz @500, @750 and @1ghz and i know for a fact it really is a 1ghz as this one has the original plastic casing.
