Nice! I'd always loved these computers. Would love to get my hands on one some day (not that I need another computer though! 🤣). Trying to get my hands on a Spectria Packard Bell but no one seems to have one. 😒

Here is my little baby.

CPU:
Pentium III 500MHz (Katamai).

Mobo:
Asus P3B-F 1.04 (2 ISA slots model)

Memory:
768MB (3x256 Registered ECC ram)

Sound cards:
Gravis Ultrasound rev. 3.74 (ISA non-PnP)
Sound Blaster AWE32 CT3900 with 32MB Ram (ISA non-PnP)
Aureal Vortex 2 8830A2 (PCI)

Video Card:
3dfx Voodoo 3 3000 AGP 16MB

Network card:
3com 3C905CX-TXM PCI

It's a retrofitted Dell Dimension XPS T500
I replaced the original motherboard (Dell oem version of Intel SE440BX-2).
To make it work I had to make a custom front panel adapter. Power supply also had to be replaced.

Three sound cards (cause why not? 😀)
GUS is mostly used for Sfx in dos games
Aureal Vortex 2 is for Windows games that support A3D
AWE32 is used in dos games mostly for midi music and is also installed in windows as a secondary sound device - this allows for loading custom sound fonts for GM emulation in DOS games.

Nice looking system... 😜
Is that, by the way, my old AWE32 sitting beautifully in there?

Don't eat stuff off a 15 year old never cleaned cpu cooler.

AWE32 PnP
DEC 21041-AA NIC (It has the DSUB style, thinwire and rj45 ethernet)

Wait a minute. A case that has a timer when the system gets turned on? Interesting. Must be quite handy for comparing startup times between systems.

That is a sweet case. Full of the excessive red/green LEDs of 80s stereo equipment. I've never seen one like that before.

What is the red LED above the reset button for?

Looks like that's the power LED. The others are used as follows:

Turbo, Keyboard lock, HDD activity, and if the case is opened (might not be the case, but I digress).

Yup. Trick it out with an LED VU meter if you want to crank it to 11.

All hail the Great Capacitor Brand Finder

Do it! They're expensive on eBay but I bought one for $50 shipped, untested. It needed to be torn apart and reassembled but now it works fine. All I did was that and buy a CMOS battery for it (CR2025).

Is not that hard to obtain
The 9800/21 series (or "miko" as I call 'em since I'm a classic 9800 Touhou game lover) used a slot called C-Bus, hence the card's C shape :3
They are inserted like a Nintendo cartridge and they do have screw holes on the back instead of the common PC bracket that we the Americans use
If you go to Y! Auctions and type for example the LAPC-N you will see the card in a C-Bus format
It was like the IBM's MCA and later at the mid/late 90's NEC switched from the C-Bus to standard PCI

Also the 9821Xt is maybe from the transitional era, since it has NEC's C-Bus and PCI, you can notice it thru the dual Voodoo2's (the machine being from 1997 at least I think)

(I know all this since I love that machine together with the short lived X68000 and those two are my favorite Japanese computers and BTW, I would love to get one to play some Touhou)

And as I want to be a nice person with every Vogons member here is how a "miko" card looks like

Huh, a PC-9821Xt13/C12. I own a PC-9821Xb10/J8, but I've haven't done much yet. I still need to buy a PC-9801-86 soundboard, a replacement floppy drive (or floppy emulator; the drive the machine came with was borked), and a CF-to-IDE adaptor.
