Should I be safe to desolder the RTC in my Shuttle HOT-433P and replace it with another module? The board I have has a DS12778A RTC, and I have a new DS12887 to replace it with. AFAIK, the "A" just indicates that there's a reset pin available, but on this board the trace for the reset pin goes nowhere.
I've read that some boards don't like it when you replace the RTC with a new one, since they assume some part of the clock is initialized. The battery on my RTC was flat, so I've already desoldered it, if only to put a socket in. I can either replace it with a new RTC, or do the battery mod on the existing one.
