i was told to ask you guys so i'm doing that now.

i have this rather weird issue playing back sound on my newly built dos machine. as stated in the title, playing back general midi (or sound canvas) music in games mutes the soundblaster sound effects in said game.

the soundcard i'm using is a yamaha audician 32 plus with a roland sound canvas connected to it via a run of the mill gameport midi cable. the settings are the default ones (220/5/1 and 330). i'm also running the audio out from the sound canvas back to the line in of the sound card.

the games i tested this with are doom, doom ii and duke nukem 3d. weird thing in the latter one is that in the sound setup both the music and the sound effects play fine but as soon as i start the game the sound effects are gone.

the rest of my setup is this:

pentium 166
64megs of edo ram
tekram atx mainboard
2mb miro video 22sd graphics card (it has an s3 chip on it)
3dfx voodoo 1
2,5 gigs hd
mitsumi cd rom
free dos 1.2

i hope anyone can help me with this issue
