Is soyo a good brand for old motherboard or it is bad quality as PCCHIPS?
I have 2 motherboards that are soyo and i saw that many capacitors are in very bad shape on both of them some orange on the top, Strangely the motherboard still works.

Motherboard Soyo pentium3 : SY-7VBA133U (universal AGP)
Motherboard Soyo Super socket7 : SY-5EHM

There company is dead, their site is gone, nobody ever made a backup of their drivers. I saw a review on linustechtips on the pentium3 one and i saw it came with a soyo cd manual / drivers rev 20030902 . But i was not able to find a copy of that CD anywhere, nor CD for the 5EHM either. I was really hoping on getting a copy of those CDs to see how it was, how it looked like and what came inside.

Does anyone have those driver CDs? maybe you can upload a copy to megaupload or vogon drivers?

maybe newer revisions of the driver disc have drivers for other motherboard models? I have an older revision soyo driver disc but it does not come with the motherboard driver.

SOYO was good brand.

The bad capacitors is a common thing from pretty much all motherboards of that era. Nothing that replacing them with new/goods quality capacitors will not fix.

You really don't need the original driver CDs for those boards. You really just need the appropriate chipset drivers and any other drivers for built in stuff like onboard sound.

This exactly ^^^ For god's sake, of course SOYO is a reputable brand. Especially during the socket 7-slot 1 era they made some good and reasonably priced motherboards, rich in features and pretty stable. Then... history happened. I also regret not having a complete archive of their web site -not that it's needed though as already mentioned, mostly for the manuals. Some motherboards have like 100 revisions, so official/specific manuals could certainly help.

They weren't one of the absolute greats, but they made great value boards and some really outstanding ones. I have a soft spot for them, especially for socket 7 stuff and a lot of people in my country wound up getting one at the time.
One of their greats is probably the SY-6BA+ series, with the SY-6BA+ III and SY-6BA+ IV being some of the best 440BX motherboards you could get your hands on.

Always heard good things about SOYO. For a while they had a line of high-end boards with white PCBs, which was interesting. They seemed about as susceptible to capacitor plague as any other brand of the period, though.

I have the SY-7VBA133U driver disc.
It has disc label SOYOCD20031101 so I guess the drivers on it are from 2003.

It is rev 20031101, not rev 20030902

EDIT

For some reason I can't access my dropbox account anymore -- the Dropbox Login link is grayed out and I don't want to use Google to log in.

So I uploaded the driver disc to mega.nz

to me, excelent brand for it's price in their products. I had 6 SY-5EH5/5EHM and 2 of them were with leaking capacitors. but all of 6 were working excellent and very good performers. Sadly I had to sell them with some excellent 440BX boards.

My one and only Soyo board is tucked away right now but believe its the Soyo SY-7VCA Socket 370 board.

I bought it used long ago with knowledge that the CPU fan header was bad. Otherwise the board was fine. around 2006 or so I pulled it out of storage and built my first retro rig with it using Pent3 733MHz, 768MB PC133, Viper 770, Voodoo 2 SLI 12MB, on-board sound, Windows 98SE.

The on-board sound did work with dos and games like duke 3d and caramageddon. In hindsight I really didn't need much better and wonder why I wasted so much money on all the other hardware I've bought over the years (mostly stopped buying old hardware these days)

The driver disc is still kicking around in my software bin if I remember right.

Back in the day i had one Soyo Dragon KT333 Plus but it failed and i swapped for one ASUS A7V8X-X that still working today(never recapped the board).
I heard nice things about Soyo but i guess when i purchased one back in the day(new in box) i got a bad board.

Glad the upload of the driver CD iso was useful.
I'll leave it up until I need the space for something else.

And thanks, akula65, for the Soyo web archive links.

akula many of those links were dead even in the wayback , but other sites got them.

but this driver via4in1443v(a).zip for example is not found anywhere

whats the difference between via4in1443v(a).zip and via4in1443v.zip

is that a special version for 7vba133U ?

I used the SY-6BA+III when it was new and for years after that. It came with a coppermine Pentium III 600MHz. Nothing to complain, it always worked very well. Phoenix BIOS, jumperless, FSB of 66MHz up to 155 IIRC. This board is in storage and last time I checked it was still fine, it is only that I currently prefer to tinker with jumpered motherboards instead.

Heh, I just remembered that my first Pentium 3 "retro PC" was based on a Soyo Slot1 board using a VIA Apollo Pro 133A back in early 2009. I forget which one it was, but it left a great impression on me, perhaps it was the Soyo SY-6VBA133 ?
I know I definitely used a Katmai 500 on it, my old AWE64 Gold and a couple of Voodoo2 cards, which had previously resided in a 440FX board with a Pentium 2 233, so that was a massive jump already. I think I was probably using either a GeForce 2 card for 2D or a Matrox G200 and surprisingly, I don't remember having any issues.

In fact, I was impressed both by the speed of the board and its stability! Apollo Pro 133 is not exactly beginner's territory, so I really am surprised that I had no negative experiences with it at the time. That's the system I played a lot of old games on, my most intense experience was probably with " Tex Murphy : The Pandora Directive ", I seriously lost my sleep when playing that game. I remember coming home from school and going straight for that computer every evening just because I was so hooked on this game.

So, I thank you Soyo for those glorious memories 😀.

Anyone knows, what's the differance between Soyo SY-5EH5 and Soyo SY-5EH/Soyo SY-5EHM?
I've got 5ehm version, but on the site Anandtech, there is review SY-5EH5 . https://www.anandtech.com/show/130
Are they basicaly same? When 5EH5 got so high rating, does it apply same on 5EH/5EHM version?

Generally positive about Soyo, significantly above-average build quality. PCB thickness and layout in So3 to So7-era reminded me of contemporary Asus.

Only big negative was the way they did their best, first with stickers, later with complete relabeling, to hide what chipset you were getting (or pretend that Soyo/Eteq designed their own). Fortunately it's pretty well documented which set belongs with which board, but it's understandable people would lump them in with charlatans like PC Chips because of it.
