Pretty nice! Thanks for the contribution!

If you want to come closer to 5000 (or maybe even brake the record of Skalabala) you have to use a Geforce2 or Geforce3 card as the GeforceFX card you are using can simply not use the fastest driver (7.76).

What motherboard do you use?

asus tx97-e, 233mmx, voodoo1, s3 virge ,sb16
asus p5a, k6-3+ @ 550mhz, voodoo2 12mb sli, gf2 gts, awe32
asus p3b-f, p3-700, voodoo3 3500TV agp, awe64
asus tusl2-c, p3-S 1,4ghz, voodoo5 5500, live!
asus a7n8x DL, barton cpu, 6800ultra, Voodoo3 pci, audigy1

Actually it is a far superior result, as it is 3DMark2001SE, not 2000.... (maybe doubling it)
The 5900xt card is way faster than geforce 2 or 3 with any driver even on socket7.
I use a ga5-ax motherboard. 512mbyte pc133 on a single stick.

Ok, nice, i didn't see the ''2001'' part.

BUT..... this is about 3dmark2000 and i think you are completely wrong when it comes to the ''The 5900xt card is way faster than geforce 2 or 3 with any driver even on socket7'' part.

If that was true my scores would be much higher as i have almost the entire range of Nvidia agp cards, including fx5950 ultra cards (my fastest 3,3v compatible Nvidia cards, 6800 and up are 1,5v only).

So please post 3dmark2000 scores from that exact system, i would love to be proven wrong!

One tip: On most Ali boards 128mb is faster as more ram is not cacheable, unless you happen to have the G or H revision of the chipset (both are pretty rare)

I will be back with 3DMark2000 results.
It is not simple to configure properly fx cards with socket7, as the agp Slot will revert to pci mode without optimizations. I remember I had a lot of troubles to make it work properly (with low Performance, as you say even lower than my ti500 wich does not make sense).
On the k6plus forum we played a lot with dozens of vga and drivers versions to obtain different performace (crazy o balanced, the most balanced card was the geforce2 mx 400).
As for the revision of the chipset, I will check.

Love to see your results.

If you do get the highest score or even come a bit close please share all the deatails on board, drivers etc.

But i very much doubt it 🤣

Of course I will,
Let me have some time to set up again the K6.
I don’t know why I should obtain a lower Score in 3dmark2000, the 5900xt is far superior to any 2 or 3 GeForce.

Ok, but are you really telling me that a geforce3 card is faster than a fx 5900?

Is it a unique glitch with 3dmark2000 coupled with socket7 ?

Because in every other platform the results are the ones shown above (and dozens more).
Please elaborate.

Ofcourse not. Would be really silly to say that a Geforce2 or 3 is faster, the fx5900 is a MUCH faster card.

But you have to read this thread.... For a k6 platform to reach the highest score in 3dmark2000, you need the right combination of hardware and software.

And driver 7.76 seems to be the absolute fastest for this benchmark with this platform.
The fastest card that is supported by this driver is the Geforce3. Geforce2 also works almost as fast as both cards are capable of a lot more than the k6 cpu can provide (at the time reviews for the Geforce3 cards were done with 1ghz p3 cpu's).

Grabbing a faster Geforce4 ti, Geforce5 or whatever requires a much later driver that does not have the right optimisations and therefor will be slower. You can overcome this by also grabbing a faster cpu but that is not the point, we want the highest score from super socket 7 AMD.

So the right ingredients up to now according to this thread to reach a high score:

Fastest k6 capable board up to now : Asus p5a-b
K6-3+ cpu
Fast ram: pc133 cl2 with tight bios settings
win95/98/me
DX7
driver 7.76
fastest vga that is supported by that driver: Geforce3
Fastest Ali agp driver
Fastest Reg settings for that driver
Best overclock you can possibly get out of the board/cpu and even overclocking the geforce3 helps.
Run 3dmark2000 with default settings.

Now go on and benchmark it on your system with the fx5900, you will see that it will not even be close. I tried with a ti4600 and i think i got closer to 3k or something like that.

asus tx97-e, 233mmx, voodoo1, s3 virge ,sb16
asus p5a, k6-3+ @ 550mhz, voodoo2 12mb sli, gf2 gts, awe32
asus p3b-f, p3-700, voodoo3 3500TV agp, awe64
asus tusl2-c, p3-S 1,4ghz, voodoo5 5500, live!

After some run of 3Dmark2000 I confirm you are totally right, the results are around 2800, with the chip overclocked to 633 (pretty amazingly the system started after years of inactivity without a glitch).

That said, I still fail to understand the reason for this strange behaviour and I find very difficult to use this benchmark to fine tune my k6 system.

The K6 fever took me again, but I will stuck with 2001 Version to search for improvements as it s more close to real world performance.

Thank you for making me turning back at it 😉

I always come back to my ss7 system, it's my favorite retro platform.

I don't know, it is for the most part the driver but also the 7.58 is fast, and probably other old ones that are in the ballpark performance wise. They probably fixed (or broke?) something in later ones.
Take for example the last win9x driver from Nvidia, it is a complete dog performance wise. Sure it willl be compatible and stuff but most agp cards are very slow with their latest and greatest official driver.

The 7.76 might be faster in direct3d games as well, never did real game benchmarks but they seem to run fine.

3dmark 2001 is more of a fast p3/p4/athlon benchmark for me. Just like the fx5900 is complete overkill for the slow cpu, it can not even saturate a Geforce2 🤣 .
Remember, when 3dmark 2001 was released it was very harsh on systems and maybe 2 years later we started to have systems that could run it really well. Then came 2003 version and it all started over.... etc. etc.

Hello,

this is what my K6 can do:

Hi friend 😀
That is a great score indeed, however it is actually a glitch.
Look at the fps in the nature test, it is not held back by the cpu, and this is what boosts the score dramatically.

However that is still a good score for 2001. Please share all your drivers and setting please 😀

Hello everyone! Maybe someone get me advice about CTU. I have AMD K6-3+ 400 ATZ @550 mhz, and i wanna use the CTU for him, but - i unzip all files from arhive, run the ctu.exe but i have error "Unable to load VXD". Funny moment - in try run programm in Win7 on my actualy pc, same error :\

600mhz score

Imperious my friend 😀 Can you please share details on the setup you used here?
Windows 98? What bios settings? I got my hands on a EP-MVP3G-M but my best score thus far is only 3350+-
What Geforce drivers?
Seems so slow 🙁

Ok, best thus far with the MVP3G-M is 4182 @550Mhz when I change FSB jumper on motherboard to overclock it locks up, I tried everything!
It refuses to boot and sometimes does not even POST. This is with the jumper @112mhz. Not even 3x112 works.
However! I tried software overclocking. And its rock solid on 5.5x112mhz for 618MHz. This baffles me. And score went up to 4500+
I am still struggling to optimize the VIA board. Using CTU tweak makes no difference at all, but with ALi chipset it oes help for sure.

Meljor, you wont believe this. Yesterday I plugged in my GF3 Ti200. Put my finger on suspect capacitor to feel if it heats up..... Switch on PC, BOOB hand full of oil and burn! 🤣!
So my GF 3 is dead at the moment. And I know it does get about 100 points more than the GF2 Ti200 so maybe I am at the max of this motherboard score using 550Mhz.
The WPCredit is so confusing on VIA. Still looking into it.

I have the same Epox board (and 3 others ss7 from Epox with Via chipset, also have a DFI board, Aopen and a chaintech....maybe more).

I would have liked to give it a go but I just don`t have the time or patience right now! My only running ss7 system is based on my favorite P5A, the rest is stored away.. maybe some day . I love ss7.
