It's one of those CPU's that have amazing power management but the clock speed does NOT compare to similar chips at the same speed. Windows 98se fully patched seems a bit sluggish but windows 2000 crawls.

Found some benches, ran over by a VIA C3 Samuel 2. 😵

Nice. Is that going to matter much at all for DOS gaming though? It is still going to be plenty fast for pretty much any DOS game and Windows game I would want to play on it.

No, and since the vertical resolution of the monitor is only 480 you probably won't run them in more than 640x480 anyway.

Bad news: I got burned on that Voodoo 5. First time in over two years in this hobby I've made an advance payment and of course it turned out to be a scam. And here I was thinking that old hardware is too niche of a thing to try and con people.

Good news: got this awesome package one week early.

pxMeDKam.jpg

The contents are:

- Gravis Ultrasound PNP
- ASUS P/I-XP6NP5 — with Pentium Pro, heatsink and four EDO RAM sticks
- M396F motherboard — AMD 386SX@40 without any cache. Battery seems intact
- NESXA rev 0.7 — also AMD 386SX@40, with cache and four SIMM RAM sticks
- Realtek ISA videocard

With that I finally got my first GUS. The Socket 8 board is awesome, too. I really like this platform and ASUS boards are particularly cool to me. This board even comes with Mediabus slot.

That sucks, sorry to hear that. I don't know how people sleep at night after scamming a someone, but I guess they can justify it somehow.

Nice work on your other pickups though!

Speaking about that, I had to buy three Voodoo2 cards in the last weeks to get one that was actually working. The first two were sold as perfectly working, but apparently came from a recycler. They had severe damage all over the card and were of course not working. Fortunately, laws in Germany are quite strikt in such cases and I got my money back. But still, this is just absolutely sickening.

Not very well per MHz, but if you measure per Watt it's a different story. Best performance per Watt until the introduction of the Pentium M (which was what killed Transmeta stone dead).

Last week I also got my hands on a marginally faster 733MHz Crusoe system (see a few pages back) - basically on a miniITX motherboard, so if there's benchmarking to be done we can compare crazy sub notebook optimalisations vs a more normal config. Nonetheless I suspect my K6-3+ will beat the pants off it (if I ever receive my SS7 motherboard that is...). Downside of my system is no HW sound chip. It's VIA AC'97, so maybe SB legacy support (haven't checked in BIOS yet), but AC'97 runs of the CPU, so even if it does work, it's going to slow down everything to the point that 533MHz Vaio might outperform it in games with sound enabled.

Also bought something today:

A DFI VG-3000 16b ISA VGA card with Oak OTI037C chip, dual DB15 and DB9 connectors, 8b ISA support, backward compatibility all the way down - EGA/CGA/Hercules/MDA. Oh, and a nearly pristine manual. Only thing missing is the driver floppy.

@ chose007

Please use smaller sized images or preferrably thumbnails when posting several images. Linking images in fullsize excessively like this is not appropriate.

PS: Nice haul, though 😀

Yeah, unfortunately, in Russia most online classifieds don't process transactions and don't offer protection for the buyer because users don't want to pay additional fees. We've had our clone of eBay, but it failed, so similar services remain rather niche.

1000 dollar question as far as I'm concerned is if the P3C-D works. I had at least four or five of them (both retail and HP OEM) and not one even POSTed. Not sure what was up there, but it wasn't my CPUs (which were perfectly happy in a P2B-DS or any other dual board) or my RIMMs (which worked fine in an Intel VC820). And yes, I did use the special CT-RIMM which 3-RIMM i820 boards require in the third slot (and you have in yours too). So let us know if yours does actually boot!

Back side of this card said nothing more ... maybe specialist like Batyra can tell you more.

Really? What do you guys use in Russia then? I can't believe such a huge country with a big population like yours doesn't has a popular, functional online auction platform.

Found info about the card: http://www.amoretro.de/2012/05/aztech-sound-g … 0792-8-bit.html It's in Dutch, however.

Nice card, kudos!
I have the "rev.B" VG-3000 , it's a good card for older systems:
