Does it really offer some advantage compared to SATA SSD... other than nice big numbers in synthetic benchmarks and zero compatibility with older PCs? 🤣

I think agent_x007 beg to differ on that old pc issue. 🤣

Quad SLI is a pain to work with... but paste/pad exchange on Dual PCB GTX 295 is nightmare.

12 screws per PCB + 2 in front + 2 on bracket + 7 on casing, and each time you screw up something (like too little paste or loose internal SLI connector), it's at least 12 + 2 screws.

However, if you get everything right, you can get a mixed PCB OC'ed GTX 295 Quad SLI setup 😁

Also, Pro tip : Quad SLI on DirectX 10/11 class hardware isn't possible on Windows XP OS (not supported in drivers).

Time for upgrade of my main PC. Got this 8700K for very good price, but I kinda drew the short straw on overclocking side. It seems this particular piece is extremely power hungry and while 1.25V for 4.8 GHz is quite ok... 180W of power in heavy (but still real life) AVX load feels too much. 😈 On the other hand I'm surprised Ninja 4 can keep it running without much problems at still acceptable temps and this is without delid.

Quad-core Xeon E5440, 12MB cache, already LGA775-modded.

I have a couple machines around this could go in but it'll likely end up in my Asus P5Q-based 4U rack workstation. Should be a nice horsepower bump over the C2D E8500 in there.

The Corsair Crystal Series 470X case that I built my Ryzen machine around is a disaster. It's quiet, but the lights are very distracting, the case was hard to build in, the glass highlights my awkward cable layout, one of the fans doesn't turn (though it does light up), the toolless drive bays were flimsy, and it has no 5.25" bays, forcing me to use these miserable external drives that eat USB ports and perform poorly. So I've bought a Fractal Design R5 to re-case the machine in. Eventually I will also get a BD-RE drive, an IDE controller card, and an LS-120 floppy drive so I will no longer need external drives. No RGB, no glass, no bullshit. I'm done with "gamer" cases.

Triple slot? Jesus man, your video card needs a diet! Just looking at that thing mounted in your PC with all its weight gives me the heebie-jeebies.

It isn't so bad... actually it is more like 2.5 slots 🤣 Anyway the heatsink must be big enough when I want the performance and silent PC too. 😀

My old Sennheiser HD 650 headphones were getting old and worn, so I got a pair of the new HD 6XX headphones from Massdrop, which are supposed to be exactly the same as the HD 650 with a different color scheme, for $199. That's about one third of the HD 650's MSRP. They do indeed sound almost exactly like the old HD 650s, only with a deeper, less buzzy bass from not being 10 years old.

During 2009, there were many reviews, which ended with recommendation, that two HD4770 have better price-performance ratio, then HD4870.

4770x2.jpg

But does the same applies to four HD4770 versus two HD4870? 🙄

4770x4_4870x2.jpg

Of course, that's rhetorical question, just want to show my finished collection (today I received last HD4770 and HD4870x2) 🤣

A Tascam US-16x08 USB audio interface/mic pre-amp. 16 ins (8 microphone-only, 8 line), 8 outs, and DSP mixer with EQ and compressor. 1U/desktop form factor.

http://tascam.com/product/us-16x08/

Probably overkill for recording from mostly General MIDI modules, but I might want to record acoustic instruments in the future, so I figured I'd better get something suitable right away...

Also two 1/2 U rack front plates.

Apperently it was new monitor day. I picked up this Insignia NS-22E430A10 LED panel at a garage sale for all of $20. I didn't have anything with native component inputs for my Xbox & PS2, so this fills that gap. Apparently these are flog-it-for-peanuts levels of obsolete now? On the way home I stopped at the post office and collected a package which turned out to be my Eyoyo S801H. Sweet.

Dual-heading the PS2, like a boss.

Not a huge fan of 16:9 but the Insignia has everything else I wanted, so it'll do nicely. I've gone through quite a few displays recently because they all seem to be missing some form of connectivity or can't do some specific dumb thing that I want. WELL, HAH. NOT THIS TIME. YOU WANT CONNECTIVITY?

The little Eyoyo is really nice for what it is, super crisp display and a great compact size. The colors are a little off using composite video, but through VGA it looks great. I do notice a tiny bit of checkerboard artefacting when scrolling, exactly the same as on my Dell 2001FP, so it may not be the absolute newest panel tech around but no complaints. I'll give it a more thorough stress test and update the other thread with a proper evaluation.

The only issue with it is, I don't think the stand included in the box was the right one, or it's missing a bracket or something. Not sure if I'm going to bother doing a return, as I can make a bracket adapter in like 20 minutes with a piece of metal and some bolts from my spares bin. I was thinking of mounting somewhere anyway.

^I really like this design. I know it's limiting GP104, however in this case I prefer visuals over maximum OC (also, I was lucky to buy it for ~520$, including 23% tax in my country 😀).

First test 😀

My 9 year old LG phone finally died, so I got myself one of these. It's an iPhone. Eight.

This thing packs more CPU horses than my Ivy Bridge i5 laptop. I can't believe how fast it draws web pages. Despite all the fancy blur effects and transitions, the UI just refuses to fall below 60 fps. Why can't desktop OSs be fully GPU accelerated?
