I remember commodore had one around 1994 or so. I think they had both 486 and P60 versions.

I remember number 5 from shops back in the days. Never seen one in action though. They were all the rage back then, when introduced, and I remember that one of all those cases had poor magnetic shielding. This led to some serious loss of data for some users.

I've seen those on eBay (too pricey), yet, it'll be nice to have a case like that for my Socket 7 system, and if there's an ATX version, for my FX-6300 system.

Not stereo, unfortunately, but the Ultimedia line of IBM PS/2's circa 1992 had a well-amplified, full-range speaker as part of the case, complete with volume control knob and 1/4" (!) headphone and microphone jacks.

While normally coupled to an oddball DSP-based MWAVE card, which was nearly useless outside of Windows or OS/2, you could replace that with an even-rarer SoundPiper 16. This SoundBlaster clone used the same 14-pin cable standard that IBM specified, so you could play DOS games with really high quality (mono) results.

NEC made some old-school looking LPX systems that had the speakers in front of the case (one of them in a door that hid the CD-ROM and floppy drives) in their ValueStar NX range:

I only have the one case with built in speakers (below) which was part of a previous build... but now have it empty for a soon to be new 386 build.

Lovely case, man. Question: how does one simply hook up the internal speakers to the sound card? Is it straight up 1/8" (3.5mm for the metric people) jacks, or is it a proprietary cable?

I'm interested in something like that for my Socket 7 build and if there's an ATX version of the case, for my FX-6300, but, I have no idea if there's a case like that.

This one is odd, apparently it has a Celeron 400 in it but it's definitely an AT case. I guess the speakers must've been pretty bad because it came up for sale again not long after.

I've just registered after having read this interesting thread and seeing my own computer case from the 1990s here. 😀

Does anybody know who the manufacturer of #1 is? Or where I could still get that case? I already have a retro PC in my very first Escom computer case but a second one in this multimedia housing would make my day.

Oh I've never seen this thread before ! Well here's my case

I opened it because I was building my DX4 system in it at the time. Unfortunately it got damaged during shipping so it got cracked in the corner and also it's quite yellowed. For all of these reasons I might paint it someday. Oh and also one of the speakers isn't working at the moment, I'll need to check that out as well.

Comaq had a nice all-in-one Presario CDS series This is my CDS 524, a 486DX2/66. I also have have the Pentium 75 variant as well.

Some of the speaker cases have gone for around $100 on fleabay, so maybe something in that area?
