Yeah banshee never had that big of a marketing push that V2 and V3 did. Much of V3's hype ("22-bit color", 1600x1200 support, etc) are features introduced in the Banshee 😀

But not as cool! 🤣
Yes it is, that's why banshee and 3 shipped with heatsinks 😜
I ended up getting both over the last week.
Got 2 x Diamond Multimedia Monster 3D II (Voodoo 2 cards, with SLI cable and VGA passthrough cable) and a Voodoo 3 3000 AGP.
Now I am all 3dfx'ed up (aside from a voodoo 5, but that is just too expensive)

don't forget the Voodoo 4 4500, also your missing the Voodoo 5 6000, and a rampage card, you also need Voodoo, Voodoo Rush, Banshee, Voodoo 3 2000, and 3500 🤣.
Don't forget the Interact 3dfx Hammerhead gamepad!!!

Time to sneak that legendary bank vault in France.
All hail the Great Capacitor Brand Finder

And I better not forget the different versions of the Rush ... with various different 2D accel chips
Being a 3dfx collector is starting to sound scary!
You also have the poor gamer experience, set a voodoo wallpaper, and just tell people you have one but you don't feel like playing a game right now 🤣.

I found one of those at Goodwill about two years ago. It felt like a cheap piece of crap. Online reviews pretty much confirmed it was garbage.
Performance wise a Banshee is roughly as fast as a single Voodoo 2
Nope.
I must be some kind of standard: the anonymous gangbanger of the 21st century.

No it is not. Every retro enthusiast owning them add a fan on those heatsinks just because they are not cool enough. 🤣

It varies depending on if the game uses multitexturing, but it ends up being pretty close
DOS/w3.11/w98 | K6-III+ 400ATZ @ 550 | FIC PA2013 | 128mb SDram | Voodoo 3 3000 | Avancelogic ALS100 | Roland SC-55ST
DOS/w98/XP | Core 2 Duo E4600 | Asus P5PE-VM | 512mb DDR400 | Ti4800SE | ForteMedia FM801
Can also at least say the Banshee doesn't suffer from texture thrashing that much compared to V2. r_picmip 0 on Banshee in Q3 is playable and stable.

Games without multitexture support were rare beasts right after Banshee release. Yes, faster in older games or some rare occassions, but that's it.

Everything didn't automatically gain lightmaps after 1998. There's way more than plenty of vertex lit no-multitexture-necessary 3d games to play. They are not "rare", hell, they're more numerous than the games that did use multitextured lightmapping in 1998-2001... there's more to PC 3d gaming than limiting yourself to the id/epic engine licensee list.
