Vanilla ET4000 does not have Windows acceleration either. The W32 variants had BitBLT and hardware cursor. Older cards were basically dumb framebuffers, similar to other VGAs of the time.

As far as the Trident ISA cards go, the letter at the end of the number matters. 8900D is a pretty quick card, while 8900C is not. I'll have to do some benchmarks of 8900D and 9000i I got, the latter is slightly slower than a OTI077.

Really? I'm using one in a Pentium 75 system. It's running in 800x600, 64k colors. Speed is good. I once read that all the TGUI94xx chips are slow when they have only 1 MB installed instead of 2 MB. All my cards have 2 MB installed.
