Hi all,

To the best of your knowledge, does the Lucky Star motherboard, Socket 3, SIS 85C496, Award modular bios V. 4.51G pictured below:

https://drive.google.com/file/d/1LHWR-367ZmA9 … ew?usp=drivesdk

provide:

1) Full support for AM486 DX4-120 WB: Yes/No
2) 40 MHz FSB: Yes/No
3) 40 MHz PCI bus when FSB bus goes at 40 MHz (if above is Yes), without need to downclock the PCI to 2/3? Yes/No
4) Double-bancked L2 cache without any further intervention? Yes/No
5) Safe, stable, permanent, traversable worm-hole to the NGC 598 / Triangulum galaxy? Yes/No

Thanks.

It's a great board - PCI performance is a bit slower when compared to an UMC board though.

1) yes(at least from a functional standpoint - no idea which string it shows)
2) yes
3) yes(had it running at 66mhz with a Matrox)
4) no(single banked design due to being a mini-board)
5) most likely one of the very best boards out there - way better than the Zida I tested

I have mine setup with an Intel dx4-100mhz CPU.
Good board. Good bios.
Make sure you put in a fresh battery.

I used this power adapter.

Oh yes I remember the 50 and 60 MHz you mentioned before! I wasn't aware you pushed it even to 66 MHz! Wow!
So, you basically run an old PCI (2.1 I guess) as a more modern 32 bit 66 MHz PCI bus????

Great, thanks guys!

No. You need to use PCI divider in this case.

Requests here!

Yes! I always had a couple of PCI dividers on my bedside table when I was a kid... 🤣 I have no idea what it is 🤣

Not really - I tested 50, 60, 66mhz fsb with JP19 and the Matrox card ran with jumper 19 at position "1:1". I personally would only have it running this way up to 50mhz fsb for prolonged sessions or permament use, since this is the maximum option I have tested 24/7.

I also have to add that it seems that the board has something of an "auto-ratio" which seems to kick in after a certain speed. When I compared the VESA scores of speedsys at 40- and 50mhz with the ones of the HOT433s(UMC888x) the jumps from one bus speed to the next where not as pronounced in regard to video bandwidth on the LS486E. This behavior was found on both a RevC1 and C2 board.

I do not have a oscilloscope, so the auto-ratio is just a theory of mine.
