I just finished watching a fan-subbed version of Final Fantasy: Advent Children, and I'm thinking of reinstalling FF7 to test it with my Sound Canvas (Roland SC-88). I know there are lots of mods and patches, so I thought I should make a thread to help people find some.

First, here are the official patches at Eidos: http://support.eidosinteractive.com/GI/Custom … e=79&platform=3

And some unofficial patches at dlh.net (scroll down to Final Fantasy VII):
http://dlh.net/cgi-bin/dp.cgi?lang=&ref=&sys=&cap=f

Relevant VOGONS threads:
Final Fantasy VII PC
Final Fantasy 7 PC ( FF7 , FF7PC ) ,ATI Radeon cards in WinXP (how to make them friendly!) (looks like it's been 15 months since I last played :))

Info on unofficial XP compatibility patches:

http://www.ntcompatible.com/thread21275-1.html

A forum with a great FAQ on getting FF7 working in XP:
http://forums.qhimm.com/
(FAQ is here: http://forums.qhimm.com/viewtopic.php?t=1662 )

A good site with lots of patches and other useful files:

Some useful mods:
http://www.genmay.net/showthread.php?t=573588&page=3
http://forums.qhimm.com/viewtopic.php?t=4451

Also, I was having trouble with notes not stopping on my Roland SC-88 when the game would transition from one song to another. I was able to work around it by passing the MIDI through MIDI-OX + MIDI-Yoke, which seems to mysteriously fix the issue.

If anyone has any additional info, please add it. If the thread gets locked and you have additional info, send me a private message and I'll add it for you. Thanks!

I've moved this from Deep Thought to the Windows forum for now, in case anyone else has something they want to contribute.

Not too long ago there was an unoffical (and of course entirely illegal) "Ultima Edition" of FF7 floating around the Internet, with all patches applied and recompressed to fit onto two CDs. Of course, you're on your own if you want to track that down.

Well, I guess it was "Ultimate edition"... Ultimate as final - nothing to do with Ultima games. 😀

From what I've read, that "Ultima Edition" is total crap. I'd highly recommend staying away from it. Unfortunately it's all over the place now, so people are asking about it everywhere (by the way, don't come to VOGONS asking for help with it!).
