I doubt they will ever leak tbh, it's not like these caps are on a power rail feeding the system so they get stressed. Plus they are not Fun-Yu ones 🤣
Yeah don't worry about them, that's my advice.
I have no idea if there are games with stereo opl3 music, would be good to know.

Dune and Dune 2? Doom and Doom 2, most certainly?

I ordered my OPL3LPT and have it on its way to me now. Do you have the files available for the case to 3d print? I was going to print my own in blue when it arrives. Plan on using this on my PS/2 line of computers where a Microchannel sound card is out of the question due to the extreme prices for a MCA soundcard. My PS/2 P70 waits patiently for it 🤣

Wow blue will be nice on your PS/2. In attachment you find the STL file (for your personal use).
Looking forward to a photo of the result in this thread 😀

Currently it sits on the back of the Backpack Cd-Rom Drive in its Parallel out port. The Backpack CD-Rom connects to the PS/2's Parallel port. Works great UNLESS the computer tries to read from the CD-Rom drive at the same time while it is playing music from the card. Liveable as long as i try to stay away from games that do both at same time.

Is it possible to develop a driver for Windows 3.x/3.1x/9x ? Or to use another driver to use OPL3LPT under Windows ?

Do you mean a windows midi driver for opl3lpt ?
Does it make sense for gaming ?

I am not familiar with win 3.11 driver development,
but maybe this FMSynth driver could be hacked : http://www.midiox.com/jsoft.htm

a new release : OPL2UTILS : "The OPL3LPT release" 0.8
is now available from https://github.com/pdewacht/adlipt/releases
Thanks pdw !!!

this release contains following changes :
ADLIPT
OPL3 mode
Support for OPL3LPT boards in full OPL3 mode was added.

Sound Blaster FM emulation
The TSR can now also intercept the Sound Blaster FM ports in addition to the standard Adlib ports. It won't however fake enough of a Sound Blaster to pass installation checks (that might happen in a future releast), so for now this is mostly useful if you already have a Sound Blaster.

For OPL2LPT this helps with games that use Creative's SBFMDRV and thus don't support Adlib cards.

For OPL3LPT this will often be necessary to get games to use their OPL3 sound track.

Hardware reset
The TSR will now reset the OPL2/OPL3 chip when you load or unload it.

ADPATCH
@codedwrench contributed patches for Wacky Wheels, Duke Nukem 3D and SCUMM games such as Indiana Jones and the Fate of Atlantis.

OPL3TEST
A new test program for OPL3LPT boards is included.

Which specific games do this?

Btw, this update is pretty cool.
I tested the opl3 mode a bit earlier today. The VGM player SBVGM v1.22 seems to autodetect the opl3 with adlipt enabled, it did not do this before.
Have yet to try any games. Is it sound blaster pro option in settings to get OPL3 music?
Wondering if this works in Dune2, I will check.

I'm very glad, that OP3LPT work with some games:

1) Transport Tycoon Deluxe (music only)

2) Mortal Kombat (music and sounds), to configure Adlib press F10 after start

3) Warcraft 2 (music only)

4) Civilization (music only)

5) Cannon Fodder (music and sounds)

6) SimCity 2000 - after I used adpatch to a32adlib.dll game write error at startup

7) Little Big Advanture - I used same a32adlib.dll and game write same error, so possible I need different a32adlib.dll file?

Something I thought of...

I could be completely wrong, but would it technically be possible for this device to be used on other non-IBM PCs if someone cared enough to write software for it? For example, there's a few games for the NEC PC-98 such as Doom and Flashback that support OPL audio through C-BUS SoundBlaster cards, but those are very difficult to get nowadays. You could use the OP3LPT for music and the PC9801-86 for samples.

Yes, it only uses very basic printer port functionality. So any machine with a Centronics-compatible printer port (IEEE 2184 SPP) should be able to use the OPL2LPT and OPL3LPT (and also the DreamBlaster S2P and CVX4 of course).

Yes, same as with the OPL2LPT, no dice.
I couldnt make the Adlib driver that comes with Windows 3.1 output anything in standard mode or 386enh mode by loading the TSR beforehand.

That might be because Windows Standard mode is 286 protected mode, and 386enh is of course 386 protected mode. They likely invalidate the driver. If you have Windows 3.0 with the multimedia extensions pack, you could try running that in real mode, which shouldn't affect the ADLIPT TSR.

It's definitely possible, I did it last year with the OPL2LPT hooked up to an Epson QX-10, a z80 based CP/M system . Just needs a system with a Centronics compatable parallel port, or at least some kind of parallel port with 10 outputs (such as 8 data lines and two control signals). https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AKJ_GgOMLog

For the PC-98 games you'd have to do some reverse engineering to develop patches for the games since they're probably talking to the sound card slightly differently to the PC versions.

Windows 3.0 MEP does not support Realmode as far as i know.
